<div dir="ltr"><div>I think a lot of us use a thin copper wire to seal the combustion chamber when using the shim steel gaskets. The protrusion has to be less for this than if it was used without the wire. That may make up the difference between the two recommendations. As we've discussed, I use Gasgacinch around the water and oil passages on the steel gasket, and it helps, but isn;t a cure. Although it seems counterintuitive to cut more off the gasket, the stamped gasket compresses a little and the hope is that we get the edges all lined up. The steel gaskets will raise compression a little more than the Lucas or Cometic. </div><div><br></div><div><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_signature" data-smartmail="gmail_signature"><div dir="ltr">Bob Kramer</div></div></div><br></div><br><div class="gmail_quote gmail_quote_container"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Mon, Dec 23, 2024 at 7:56 AM fubog1 via Fot <<a href="mailto:fot@autox.team.net">fot@autox.team.net</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex"><div><div style="font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;font-size:16px"><div></div>

Best to err on the side of taking too much off rather then not enough. We have had good luck using (and re-using) these with Hylomar. So that’s question one.<br clear="none">> <br clear="none">> I also have a bunch of old stock steel shim head gaskets. The pictures below are of that gasket sitting on the head on the work bench. It looks like I could easily trim that with a flap wheel and have no part of the gasket in the combustion chamber. So that’s question number two.
