See the attached picture from the TR-4 Workshop Manual. It shows the orientation of the distributor drive gear with the #1 piston at TDC in the firing position. Maybe my eyes are going, but I can't tell from the picture if the slot in the drive gear is offset toward the block, or away from the block.
