I was quite confused as I was surely still a few feet away from the car parked behind me! I got out to look. “Nope, nothing there!”</div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">So I pulled forward a little and tried again. Bang! I was brought to a stop again!</div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">I was 16 and knew nothing about broken gears locking up in a differential, but I instinctively put it together in my mind and knew that was the only possibility! </div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">I limped it home very slowly without incident. I found a used IRS differential and switch them out. Then I opened up the old one and there it was, a big broken tooth rolling around the bottom and scars on the case where it had wedged.</div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">Your images remind me how lucky I was that it didn’t happen at speed. <span style="font-family:helvetica;font-size:12pt">It's difficult to understand the reasoning behind not letting a more modern and available option to be used. Toyota, Miata, T5 or what ever. Had I known that to date, absolutely no tech inspector would ever even look at or question my gear box or if I was using rack and pinion steering, I may have gone that route in the first place. I don't think these items make the car or driver go much faster and spoil the competition. Some are using these already anyhow. I've heard the argument many times, that basically the original option with over-drive had 7 gears.
