VRG (and PVGP, who I believe uses the VRG tire rules) have never allowed slicks, so they had to make an exception here. I think you’re seeing a pretty good reaction here because of the late timing of the announcement, and also because many of the Triumph racers at this event run a lot of races with VRG and other east coast clubs that require treaded tires. It really does put the cars on an unequal footing (no pun intended) and all other things being equal, the car on slicks will be significantly faster. We all know ways we could make our cars faster - wider wheels, spoilers, air dams, programmable ignition - but that’s not vintage.<div class="">I for one am glad to see other interesting Triumphs show up for the event, even if SCCA prepared - just factor the tires into who gets the awards.
