<div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">Hi Jerry. I was using the name "Targa Top" for what I have seen on cars like yours. I guess that term is normally used for Porshes. The "Hard Top" I was referring to is like the steel top I have on my TR-3 (see picture), where the entire top lifts off, as opposed to the "Targa Top", where the rear window normally stays in place. I've seen a number of what I am calling Targa Tops, including both of the race cars you mentioned. But I have never seen a totally steel, one piece Hard Top for a TR-4 or 4A.</div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">Thanks for your comments.</div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">Jack<br></div><div><br></div>

<div>The Hardtop was a factory option for the 4, 4A and 250 and yes the center
portion was removable. It could be replaced with a soft top section which is the
“Surrey Top” often referred to by enthusiasts.</div>
<div>Jack Drews had a blue TR4 with the Hardtop before it was wrecked and Bob
Deanes runs a TR4 with the Hardtop but we don’t see him very often.</div>
<div>I’ve owned my 4A for 51 years and looked for this Hardtop for 40 of those
years. Finally bought a car with the top, put it on my car and then sold the
car. I like the appearance. The center section was initially aluminum and later
was steel. The rear window section is a cast aluminum piece. The glass is now
unobtanium. </div>

<div dir="ltr"><span>This car appears to be a Targa Top
car. </span>I had never noticed it before, but this makes sense for
racing. I don't know if they ever made a true "hardtop" for the TR-4, like
the Steel TR-3 hardtop. I've never seen one. If not, then the Targa
Top would be a good alternative to improve aerodynamics (Verses the open car),
assuming you kept the solid roof panel in place. I have seen a few
aftermarket plastic hardtops, in fact my race car came with one, but never a
true hardtop from the factory. Just an observation. Any
comments?</div>
