<div><font size="2">Again, it's not the correct/preferred method, but considering that there isn't normally any significant axial load on it, assembled with a little loctite green will keep the bearing in place, and it'll get the job done in those cases where a big $$ axle & flange are at risk of being damaged.</font></div>

<div><font size="2">They usually come apart OK but every now & then I get one that won't.</font></div>

<div><font size="2">If the press doesn't pop it, sometimes a heat flange to cherry & quench will, but I'm sure that doesn't do any good for the metallurgy...<br>

<div>I discovered a couple of times that the bearing did move on the shaft by as much as 1/2". As a result the shaft had moved outwards by that amount. Is that common? Is there a simple fix?</div>

<div>the flange fits on a tapered shaft which is the bear...the bearing doesn't take much at all...if you do happen to find a shop that can get it apart for you make sure you make a note of the bearing position on the shaft...take a measurement before you press it off for reference. I use a 50 ton press to get the flange apart...usually takes at least 20 tons...sometimes more...always wrap a towel around the assembly...dont think I've ever had one i couldn't get apart.</div>
