<div><font size="2">Points are fine on a 4-cylinder engine, if all is kept in order, but a 6-cylinder at those revs is pretty much at the limit; it has to do with coil saturation time, the amount of time that the points are closed.</font></div>

<div><font size="2">There's a limit to how fast the points can be made to open and close, just like a cam/valve action, and the modern optical & magnetic units are instantaneous and allow max saturation time for a good spark.</font></div>

<div><font size="2">A 6-cylinder @ those revs would likely benefit from a modern unit.</font></div>

          the 3.0 ohm coil, the points??seem to last, but the car won't
          rev past 5000 rpm.</div>

          and as long as I don't let the engine idle for very long, the
          points will last a couple sessions.?? I've been thru three sets
          of points, tried two different condensers all with similar

<div>The tow crew at Watkins Glen is very efficient, I pulled
          off behind the armco on the pace lap and was still able to
          watch all but the first two laps of the all Triumph feature
