<p>Dave, I did something like what you describe. I welded angle
iron to the frame rails below the rack mounts for the diagonals to
bolt to. This one is more of a vee welded to a cross bar out of
thick flat stock. I've attached a pic of the engine bay where you
can kind of see this. It works surprisingly well. I did the
angles in such a way that they didn't interfere with engine
removal / installation.</p>

Hi All,
<div><br clear="none">

<div>Thanks for the add! Quick question: my ‘62 TR4 has the
tall, vertical steering rack mounts, and they flex a bit more
than I like. (Rack is solid mounted with aluminum blocks).
Before I reinvent the wheel, does anyone have a suggested method
of stiffening these, where it won’t be an issue for access to
anything else? </div>

<div>I was thinking of making some diagonals that went from one
side to the other, using the existing rack mount holes, and an
open hole already in the base of the vertical piers the rack
bolts to. This way, it’s removable if need be, and gets rid of
any torsional force- although sheer forces would still be at the
base of the piers.</div>

<div>Thanks for any suggestions!</div>
