The engine that was in the TR4A that I bought from Bob Kramer has the sleeved tappet bores as pictured in a Kas Kastner book: these tappets have a diameter of 22.17mm.(Standard TR2-4 tappets are 23.76mm, that is 1.6mm wider, so the cams have 0.8mm more room)<br>
A friend's TR6 engine I'm working on (for too long, but it will be ready before New Yearr) has the enlarged bores to accept the wider tappets : the diameter of these tappets is exactly the same, also 22.17mm. So I believe both are the "GT40"/Ford tappets. The advantage is that there is a choice of these quality Ford tappets. When you have the tappet bores enlarged in a TR6 engine, it is important to mention to the machine shop that these bores are almost but not dead vertical.<br>

They are commonly used in the TR-2/3/4 block in<br>
place of stock lifters by using a sleeve - in<br>
this case they are smaller than stock.  If you<br>
use the cam developed by Larry Young you can't<br>
use those lifters as he needs the full diameter<br>
of the stock lifter.  The Elgin cams work OK with them though.<br>

I'd not heard of using them in a TR-6 until now though.<br>
