I have replaced the bearings a couple of times and while on the lift it seems tighter. Then you run a couple of races and it’s is the same amount of looseness again. Problem I see is the flange broke, not the axle. I suspect you had excessive run out on the flange, and the torque of the lugs may have stressed it. Never had anything like this in 40 years. Still use the Corvair set up in my Vintage sixes, no issues. It was a used competition axle that I got almost three race weekends out of. Unknown brand but larger diameter shaft than stock and one piece design.
