I've used this method with some success, but I'm not sure a propane would do the trick. The wax has to be drawn into the threads by the heat. I wouldn't waste too much time and effort on it though. If you plan on taking it to a machine shop, let them deal with it. Believe me, it would be worth the few bucks. Even if just for the stud removal. I've broken a few stud extractors removing these studs and burned a lot of energy during the tear down of 11 TR engines that I recently acquired.</div><div aria-label="Compose body"><br></div><div aria-label="Compose body">BTW, most of the blocks I've seen that have their original black paint, have TR 3 or 4 painted on the side. Of course the engine number prefix also designates a 3 or 4 engine. Any recommendations on how to get them out.
