Officially, it means stop racing, continue to the pits at a reduced speed. The red flag means to come to a safe and controlled stop and wait for instructions from the flag marshals before continuing. It usually is used when there is either track blockage or a severe on-track incident requiring emergency vehicles.

At the 'professional' level, the red flag is used to stop a session (usually practice or qualifying) when safety vehicles are sent out on track.

The black flag is used at all levels to signal the driver to they have committed some kind of offense. Furled (closed) for a minor warning and open for a major one. In these cases it is shown with a number board and at start and a black station.

Cheers,

Doug

dmitchel@sbcglobal.net
Sent from my mobile phone

-------- Original message --------
From: MadMarx via Fot <fot@autox.team.net>
Date: 05/21/2015 3:47 AM (GMT-05:00)
To: 'Fot' <fot@autox.team.net>
Subject: Re: [Fot] Kas Cup in-car video

Very cool race Tony.
Some very great moves to get in front.

What I don't understand.
To stop a session in USA they use a black flag?
In Europe they use a red flag to stop a race caused by an accident or
similar things.
