<DIV><FONT size=2 face=Arial>The "o" ring that was used on the original Mini and 

all of the late 50's and early 60's BMC products fit into the lower part of the 

valve spring retainer and sealed the retainer to the valve stem so that the 

retainer acted like an "umbrella" seal.  The "o" ring itself did not act as 

an oil deflector above the valve guide. </FONT></DIV>
