Wiki does mention however the Studebaker link in the name which is perhaps how the misnomer was started. These sources are saying Scientifically Treated Petroleum.</DIV>

S t udebaker gave Andy Grana t elli, t hen head engineer and chief t es t driver for S t udebaker t he posi t ion of CEO of t he newly acquired company which he t hen renamed STP. Now my ques t ion...does anyone know for cer t ain t he meaning of STP? I am ge t t ing mixed answers from The Racing His t ory Group. Mos t say i t s t ands for Specially Trea t ed Pe t roleum, while a few are saying i t s t ands for S t udebaker Tes t Produc t s. Do any of t he FOTers know t he " t rue" side of t he s t ory?
