[Fot] TR6 race car possible change of series

Bob, thanks for the valuable input.  It sounds like your thoughts are very similar to mine.  One option is for me to cannibalize the car for the other TR6-based vehicles (my 73 street car, the 2000 Mk. 1 sedan, a Hunter kit car, and a Jamaican kit car), but it turned out quite nicely (I was lucky enough to start with a fairly solid pile of "bitsa") and I hate to do that after 5 years building and prepping the car.
The VDCA rules sound quite reasonable, and I don't think it would be too difficult to find four suitable fenders.  I originally got the engine running on a set of 175 CDs anyway, so they are sitting there ready to go.  Honestly, I'm not that worried about being "competitive", just would like to not be the slowest car on track by 5 seconds a lap (Lucky Dog experience last fall).  Heck, she's (her name is Lacey) set up to run on regular unleaded as it's darned expensive to run premium all weekend!
Thanks again, friends, and I'll keep all informed.  Chuck has been kind enough to invite Cristina and me to the VDCA event coming up at the end of March, so we're planning on coming up on the Saturday to check things out.
To be honest...I'm excited!

We were at a crossroads with our ChampCar TR6 as well. It did its job and by my count it helped 6 drivers make the decision to get involved with vintage racing. As time went on we made the car faster by adding fuel injection and aero and raced with experienced drivers to great effect. Everyone had a great time but their focus was on their vintage car and last year we did not have enough of us older drivers to make a ChampCar entry work. The car sat all year but still starts right up!  This year, we gave it one last try at getting enough drivers and we have a group of younger drivers and a couple of new drivers, so we have three races planned. The fact that COTA is turning itself into a private, high dollar, membership only club, and there is one last ChampCar race there in December gave people the impetus to sign up. After that,I think the end is near for my ChampCar program.
Here's what I know.  My Texas club recently updated our rules and added classes for 1985 cars. Other clubs have rules with cut off years that vary, but the reality of shrinking grids has hit vintage racing clubs and soon most will accept more modern cars. In the 1985 SCCA GCR and PCS car weights are reduced and fiberglass panels are allowable. Modern Fuel injection is clearly out, because almost all rules are based on the concept of "period correct".  Triumph's fuel injection is allowed. The TR6 has a couple of build options, in Former CP, GT2C and former DP in GT3D. The PCS rules are almost identical but the car weight is substantially higher for GT3D. You'll want to ditch the bumpers and upgrade the camshaft and valve train, and most clubs want a period looking paint job. You can run dual SU's or Strombergs in GT3D, but you'll want Webers for GT2C.

My car would need a lot of work for a vintage conversion, mostly because the bones are so bad. The body is very rough under the panels and the floors are literally road signs. It worked for Lemon's, WRL, and Chump/Champ, but the driveline is top notch. I'm not sure what I am going to do with it going forward but after this year I will make a decision. I may pull it apart and move the driveline into a street car.

Hi Jamie,
Check out VDCA, https://www.vintagedrive.com/.  I’m down in SC and this is the group I race with.  Tracks we race include Roebling Road, VIR, Road Atlanta.  A real easy and friendly group.
You can find the rules on their website.  You are correct about the fiberglass and fuel injection, probably the bumpers too.  They look too heavy anyway.
Feel free to reach out with any questions.

Ok, friends…help!
I finished my TR6 “budget” endurance race car last year, only to find long driving stints may no longer work for my hands (long story).  So, one thought that occurred to me was to examine what changes I’d need to make to make it *eligible* (note, not competitive) for vintage.  I’m guessing the fiberglass fenders, bumpers and modern fuel injection would have to go, right?  Not major issues.  Cosmetically I wanted it pretty nice as long as you don’t look TOO close ;-)<image0.jpeg><image1.jpeg><image2.jpeg><image3.jpeg><image4.jpeg><image5.jpeg>

What else?

Car is prepared to a moderate standard, but very safe.  Has full cage, fire suppression, fuel cell, etc.  See pics if they come through.

Are the 200TW DOT tires legal?

Thanks for any recommendations, especially sanctioning bodies in the Southeast (I’m in NC).
