Interesting question. VRG requires an FIA fuel cell for a car this age. VSCCA does not. Both are supporting the event. Perhaps Henry or Paul know the answer?
You might want to think about where else you will race the car in the future and look at their rules.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the answer is a hard no. Vintage 
Racer Group, the folks that handle tech for the Lime Rock Historics say 
this about fuel cells:

3.2.4.1. Fuel cells in a metal container are required. FIA FT3 
specification cells, or equal, with
either the certification printed, or FIA hologram bonded to their 
surface, are required. For
fuel cells not contained within the body structure, the bottom of the 
fuel cell should have a
minimum of 6? of ground clearance. The mounting must be strong enough to 
resist impact
forces during an accident.

JAZ talks a good game, saying they meet SFI spec 28.1, but that spec is 
a plastic box, no bladder.

I asked the head of tech, someone who shows up with a JAZ cell gets to 
run one event, but your log book gets noted that you have a 
non-conforming fuel cell and it is a one-time exemption.

I just went through this with my TR3, ended up buying a new ATL 108.

Our NASA-AZ requires ?stock? steel tank, JAZ SCCA spec or ATL FIA certified bladder. 
Obviously stock is ?unsafe? to me, JAZ plastic ok, my ATL expensive with 3-5 year usability specification per rules.

When you install it be sure to pay attention to the ?bulkhead? between you and the fuel cell, as well as where and what?s type of fuel lines you use. 
SCCA rules, which are adopted or accepted most anywhere we might run) require that no fuel may splash into the passenger compartment from the fuel cell. In other words, no holes. Fuel lines through the cockpit must be solid metal or a stainless braided hose. Or run the lines through some sort of metal conduit or other sort of metal bulkhead ?container.? Not that Champ Car requires the fuel lines run outside the passenger compartment no matter what kind of line is used.  (I think but not certain Champ Car makes exceptions for OEM installations.)
The fuel cell itself does not ?time out? per SCCA rules, but personal experience indicates there is a limit (a 30+ year old impregnated fabric fuel cell in my car was delaminated after being exhumed from the barn after 3 decades of rest. It would not have began legal anyway).

Yes on all points. 
We run solid lines with S.S. braided lines to fuel cell and carbs AN fittings.
Solid line inside passenger rocker panel. 
Our local NASA events have 5yr certificate limit on bladder, then one 3yr. re-certification.
 Fuel cell enclosed in trunk.

When I renovated my car 12 years ago,?I had to get a new tank (with a?new bladder, of course). Seems like ATL changed the 8 gallon tank?dimensions from the 1970s, so a whole new tank went?in the hole. In fact the whole?hole had to be altered.?But not a whole lot?
You won?t regret it in the long run.?I can?t wait to see how it shines!

Please register as soon as possible, it greatly helps us with planning.  
Your credit card will not be billed until around August 1st. The refund 
policy is generous, if you cancel before August 16th, you will get a 
full refund. So there is no risk registering now, if something happens 
and you need to cancel up to two weeks prior to the event, you are not 
out of pocket.

For those who have never run the evert, couple of things to keep in mind 
when registering:

When asked what run group, choose Triumph Feature - Kastner Cup.

Depending on what data is in your MotorsportsReg profile, you may be 
asked for some medical information. When I registered I was not asked, 
but when a buddy registered he was asked about stuff like the date of 
his last tetanus shot.

The event uses all of available paddock space, and for everyone to fit 
we get assigned paddock spaces. When registering you will be asked to 
provide some information so we can make sure you will have enough room. 
Have the size of your tow vehicle and trailer available, and your canopy 
information as well. If you are towing with a motorhome, we can 
accommodate motorhomes with trailers, and you will camp in the paddock 
next to your race car.

The paddock is divided into two sections, Paddock A and Paddock B. You 
will be asked to choose your preference. The Triumphs will be paddocked 
in one big group in Paddock B, with a couple exceptions. Big haulers are 
typically set up in Paddock A, so if you use one of the big race teams 
to bring your car to the track, you will be under their canopy wherever 
they get assigned. Also, the event is co-sanctioned by the VSCCA, and 
there are a couple of Triumphs that are VSCCA regulars that may want to 
paddock with their folks, they are usually in Paddock A. Obviously we 
would like to put as many of the Triumph racer together as possible, but 
feel free to choose whatever paddock you want to!

Speaking of the paddock, the track has no electric service available, 
come prepared with a quiet generator or make friends with your neighbor 
who runs one. The gas pumps are in Paddock B. Entrance to the false grid 
is adjacent to the area we will be set up in, very convenient. Paddock A 
and Paddock B are less than 200 yards apart, an easy flat walk. Paddock 
A is where the bigtop tents are set showing display cars, the bigger 
haulers, food concessions, and lots of cars competing over the event. 
Paddock A typically has more foot traffic than Paddock B. The track runs 
a shuttle service all weekend, large 6 person golf carts constantly 
circulating about. It makes for easy getting around.

A TR 250 aluminum radiator bolted right in to my TR4A.  A bit of a plumbing fiddle because the outlets are in a different spot, but not a big hurdle.

I have used four different carriers and not sure I actually have a favorite,
but sharing my experience.  Reliable was recommended to me by several that
have used them in BMW circles.  They are likely one of the best, but I found
them expensive and slow - all depends on if they can transport a full load.
Of course, it is all relative to the value of the car.  Below are my
experiences with all four carriers I have used, from/to locations as well.

Reliable again for the second car above, but they used up their entire six
week guarantee period, so I shifted to Montway, who picked up the next day.
Reliable owns their trucks, so may be a little slower as they try to haul
only a complete load.    Reliable has five major terminals in Canton, MI;
Los Angeles, CA; Chandler, AZ; Fairfield, NJ and Orlando, FL  They are more
expensive, but their trucks are in great shape and once on the road, very
communicative.

Horseless Carriage - Sux!  Damaged car.  Driver and my photos verified damage - 8 months, 10 emails & calls, finally went to CEO & was treated poorly & paid half of damage.  Do not use!

The track has officially announced that registration is open for the
Lime Rock Historic Festival 43, the host of the 2025 Kastner Cup! 

I had a conversation with Paul King, our man on the inside, who told me
as of a couple days ago we had 22 Triumphs registered, that is half the
people on my list who reached out to me to say they intend on running!
We are off to a great start!!! 

Keep those entries coming!  

Fun fact, during that call with Paul he told me Triumphs accounted for
22 of the 23 entries to date!

Dear Competitor, 

Labor Day weekend starts with the Thursday evening parade to Falls
Village, followed by a street fair. 18 miles long, open to competitor
cars and pre-1975 sports cars. Parade registration can be found in your
race entry form. 

The racing groups and classes follow. Triumph is the featured marque
with an all-Triumph group, the Kastner Cup. We will run Triumphs that
are "too slow" or "too fast" in more appropriate groups. Practice and
qualifying on Friday; the competitors dinner Friday evening with David
Hobbs featured (he raced a Triumph Spitfire 3 times at LeMans); 2 races
for all entries Saturday; the Sunday Concours and Gathering of the
Marques; and again 2 races for all entrants on Monday 

_The following 9 groups are planned for Historic Festival 43. _ 

_Groups/Classes are subject to being combined/changed once we can
evaluate the entries. When registering in MSR, if you are unsure which
Group your car should be in, please select "Need Classing" and your
entry will be assigned to the appropriate Group._

and Monday. This is a great show with period costumes, a great "garage"
tent and again, real cars. Tony Parella tells me they've run at three of
his events and are the most popular part of those weekends with event

Great.  Thanks for the update!   

 

For anyone checking, Motorsport.reg shows no entries yet, but this seems consistent with 2024?s HF42.  The 2024 registration site only shows about 7 total entries, whereas MyLaps SpeedHive shows over 183 registrants running across all nine groups? practice sessions.

Registration for the Pittsburg Vintage Gran Prix at Pittrace is now open. Be sure to check the box for the Triumph/MG challenge when you register. It looks like we will get eight total track sessions throughout the weekend with one Saturday and one Sunday being Triumph/MG only races. If we get a big enough turnout PVGP is interested in this being a recurring event added to the schedule.  We have reserved most of the South Paddock reserved electric RV spots for Triumphs. I think there are a couple still available. Let me know if you want one.  This should be a hoot.

We did have a Kastner Cup there when it was Miller Motorsports Park.  I 
think we had a grand total of six cars show up.

I have a torque plate for a TR6.  If it will work for a GT6, would be happy
to lend to you.

Please find attached a spreadsheet I use to calculate compression ratio, or to determine the head volume needed to get a particular ratio. ?Just fill in the information requested in the yellow cells and it should yield what you want. ?You will need to measure the volume of the combustion chamber in the head (HV), cell F10. ?You should measure all of them because there can be significant variation in the factory head and/or from valve depression due to wear or prior valve jobs. ?Head volume measurement ("CCing") kits can be obtained from Summit Racing. ?You'll need to measure over 50 cc, so get a big one. ?Any issues, feel free to call me. ?Eastern time.

CVAR, our Texas club, has approved a new set of classes for production cars
through 1985 using the SCCA GCR and PCS for rules.  We are cutting off
eligibility from the more modern eras by not accepting tube frame cars and
requiring treaded tires. We are looking for photos of cars from 1985 or
earlier that depict representative cars and as a Triumph guy I would like
to find a few good examples from our cars to submit. WE want to make sure
we have permission to use the photos. I don't have any of my own but I'm
hoping the FOT can contribute. If you have a suitable photo please share it
directly with me with the photographer credit information and any other
date, track or other info you might have. The photos will be used on the
CVAR website and maybe in our emails, with appropriate credit given.
