That's a good one Justin, it's like the infamous MGB heater control valve, when the valve starts leaking it drips directly onto the distributor & kills the engine.A design feature... I think not.I had a B in the shop once where the owner made a "deflector" to keep the water off of the cap...

congrats on finding the culprit…
The funniest hard to find bug I ever had turned out to be a freak rust pinhole in my heater return pipe… that was entirely self sealing at low rpm and at high rpm it would only release a perfect little spray mist… right onto the distributor cap…. ultimately causing the car to quit… (but the moisture would dry so quickly that it wasn’t perceptible, not even leaving any sign of coolant)… The car wouldn’t start for a while, but then it would be fine!
I only found it because the car died on a dark road with only one source of light… in the odd lighting…without a flashlight… i could see electrical charges swimming around my cap… and when I reached down and revved the motor… I spotted the little misty stream out of the corner of my eye! It was not visible in daylight!

Found the smoking gun for the odd situation: cam timing was off by A Lot. Luckily Harbor Freight nearby had a dial indicator. Cam is now timed correctly; car seems to run great after moving the crank 28 degrees. :-).
Still wondering if anyone has a similar cam and a preferred needle; this cam is very close to the Kastner F cam but with a smidge more lift. (But, I know: many variables). I’ll see how the RG needle currently installed does in the am (WET).
Thanks again for the help; on site and via email! I fogure the end result is always good to know!!
