I just looked though the latest SCCA rules and updates. Nothing mentioned about a 10-year life: See below:
Driving suits that effectively cover the body from the neck to the ankles and wrists. One piece suits are highly recommended. All suits must bear an SFI 3.2A/1, SFI 3.4, or higher SFI certification label or an FIA 1986 Standard, FIA Standard 8856-2000, or FIA Standard 8856-2018 homologation label. Underwear of fire resistant material shall be used, but is optional with suits carrying an FIA Standard 1986 Standard or FIA Standard 8856-2000 label or SFI 3-2A/5 or higher (e.g., /10, /15, /20) certification label.

I just went through an SVRA tech inspection with my friend's MGB at Sebring last weekend. He has a vintage halon system, no SFI/FIA certification stickers on it. One push handle located next to the drivers set on the tranny hump, nothing outside the cockpit. He had no problem with the fire system. They did tell him his FIA, made in 2006, perfectly maintained suit was too old and needed to be replaced. They would let him run this time but he needed a new one for the next event. They're using a 10 year limit on suits, based on the newest (2023) FIA spec. SVRA tried to tell him everyone (SCCA etc) is doing the same thing, even for SFI suits. FIA is only using that spec for pro events (F1, WEC, Rally) until 2029 then it starts to cover all FIA only classes. I haven't seen a similar new spec for SFI suits at all.
BTW, just 14 cars , including 2 Matias, started the weekend in the small bore group, about 20 cars, including a couple of 10 yr old at best Mustangs made up the the big bore group.
SVRA is requiring all cars to have Flagtronic systems installed next year, according to a chat I had with their director of competition, Alex Miller.

I chose AFFF because it was said to be more effective in open cars.
Gas would just blow away, particularly at speed.

AFFF is very caustic and is used on navy ships to smother fires in engineering spaces. Not really suitable for cars if you want to reuse the car. It’s a mess to clean up.

Not to mention the potential for firefighter cancer claims, and worker's comp lawsuits.

Another word to the wise:
Some of the two-pull systems use AFFF. This is a good fire fighting agent, but by no means the only one. AFFF contains PFAS, which is a man-made family of chemicals coming under increasing scrutiny for causing health issues. If you use this and dispose of it improperly it could come back to bite you. Fighting a fire with AFFF is costing our Town hundreds of thousands of dollars in tracking contamination plumes and treating the wells in affected homes.

So with a very short time get this done, this is the New rule? Had we known this, oh say last fall, it could have been a winter project. Some of this is not hard but sending your system off to get a recertification could very well be a major problem in these times. So what is the alternative, buy a new system? Some of us have already committed to race with our home clubs in mid March, then it is a short turn around until Sonoma. Pretty well leaves us in a major bind as far I can tell, not to mention a potential large expense.
We were encouraged to sign up for the K Cup with SVRA, plus Laguna, under the assumption that if our cars were legal in our home clubs they would be allowed to run as is. Dropping this mandatory rule on us at the last minute does not sit well. No one wants to be unsafe, I don’t think the rule is that unreasonable, but the timing to get this done is unreasonable.

Advanced warning:
The SVRA rules on fire systems are much more strict than SCCA and some of the other sanctioning bodies such as VRG. Notably, plumbed in systems are required, and they must have two activation points, one accessible to the driver and the other accessible to a course worker without having to lean into the car. Furthermore, they must be re-certified every two years. Note that these are requirements, not recommendations, and new this year (2024)
For more detail, please see Section L of Safety Requirements at https://svra.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/SVRA-General-Rules-1_24.pdf.

Phil Gott
