[Fot] Mystery Or common fault

WE tore down the TR4engine yesterday to check the bearing wear and give it
a once over before the new race season starts. Everything looked great till
I removed the front main bearing cap. Is this a common fault? Has anyone
had this before and what would cause the main cap to break?  It's not a
fresh crack so I was racing this way.....time to buy a lotto ticket?
Dragged a spare engine out from the engine shed and will send it to the
machine shop on Monday.
I checked a few other mains and nothing I have lines up close enough to
line hone ...also a Triumph thing?
