We are going back to Mosport!!! Message-ID: <74c6684944954101e088715351c2d278@tr4racer.com> OK, so we are changing things up here, the announcement for next year's Kastner Cup usually happens at this year's Kastner Cup. But with some extenuating circumstances at play, and I think it makes sense to get this information out there now as racers are putting together their 2025 race calendars. In June, 2026, the Kastner Cup returns to where it all started, at Mosport! Otherwise known as the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park, in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada. The track is just east of Toronto. We will be joining the legendary VARAC Vintage Grand Prix, held Father's Day weekend in the middle of June. We are announcing this over a year out because US based racers who have not done a border crossing with their race cars are leery about what is involved, and a passport is pretty much required these days. Passports take time, especially for first time passport applications. Plus, for those who have not enjoyed the track and the unbelievable VARAC hospitality, I highly recommend considering running the 2025 VVGP as a precursor to the main event in 2026. Not only will you gain confidence with the border crossing, but Mosport is a VERY fast track and getting some laps under you belt in '25 will pay dividends for '26! I have run this event around 20 times now and have taken my race car in and out of Canada each time with no issues. The border crossing is easy, I tow a box trailer with a Class A RV and have never had to leave the driver's seat. I believe the folks who tow with open trailers get even less questions, as the border folks can plainly see what you are up to. I am happy to field any questions on the border crossing as we get closer to the event, but what is required for those of you without a Passport is to start working on obtaining one! To recap, we are going to Lime Rock in 2025 over Labor Day weekend, and in 2026 we are going to Mosport over Father's Day weekend! I have added the picture I am working from. That explains the difference between the two spoilers ? Group 44 and Kastner Brophy. Make sense now. I agree that the K-B version might be too low to the ground as originally mounted. I am going to keep looking for the Group 44 version which appears to be a possible bolt on. I took the 407ETR back in June to avoid the Toronto craziness. I saw all the signs on the 407ETR telling me that if you were over 5000kg you needed a transponder, I assumed that was for commercial vehicles. Boy was I wrong. On the toll rates for the 407ETR if you are over 5000kg and pulling a trailer, even noncommercial, that puts you into "Heavy Multiple Unit Vehicles". The tolls were crazy (they mail them to you) but what I did not expect was $150 in camera fees! The fees are going up in January so they will even be more. I discovered after the fact that you just need to go to the 407ETR website and purchase a transponder for $30 a year and save a bunch of money. I found out that they have very little latitude regarding dirty humor. They also don't kid around regarding firearms. On the same trip, one of my buddies got his TR4 dismantled in Yarmouth, NS when he answered the question above "what, you mean guns?" Took hours to get the stuff back in the TR4 before we could head off to Cape Sable. Even though I have only touring laps at Mosport - I have to agree that it awesome. You remove the caps on your SU?s/Stromnergs and seat a tube into each reservoir? then put the vent wire end into the top of the tube? you angle the long horizontal rods toward each other. Tweak them so they?re inline with each other. Now you start your already warmed up car. you can now balance your carbs by adjusting them so they?re rising equally. works on dual or triple carb set ups. Handy if you don?t want to remove filters. Also helps diagnose sticking carbs (w/o removing filters) as you can readily see how smoothly they?re rising, etc. ?Justin > On Dec 6, 2024, at 12:45?PM, Jack Brooks via Fot wrote: > > ? > I was going through some tools in my shop and came across a small pouch with an odd collection of pipes and pins, but I have no idea what it is for. The TR6. Saturday afternoon, Regional Race, the LR cast aluminum lower trailing arm of Jim Ray's TR6 broke. Uh, not something that was in the spare parts bin. A fellow from Houston that had driven his street car, a TR6, had wandered by several times Saturday morning. Right after the wrecker had deposited the now lame race car by our bus, the fellow hustled up to see what was the matter..... I immediately asked him, where is your car? His car? Yes, your car. He pointed toward the area outside of the Paddock. He said way down there.... I said, let's go get your car. Hua? Yes, we need to go get your car and bring it in the Paddock, right here. Why? Because I'm going to take the rear trailing arm off of your car and put it on the crippled race car. He was dumb-struck. How can I get home if you disassemble my car? I handed him the keys to Jim Ray's own 911S. You drive this car until the Dealer in Houston reassembles and fully services your TR6.... I did the R&R on the racecar using the donor control arm. Compressed the coil spring on the street car using about 25 worm-drive hose clamps.....Nobody wanted to stand around to watch THAT! Rebuild done before dark.... Jim won the National the next day.... The owner of the donor got his car put back and a bunch of little service items done by the Dealer in Houston. Don't you know getting out of the 911 an back into his TR6 was a let down! When Gary saw me racing the TR6 I bought from Sam Halkias he encouraged me to rebuild it as a Jim Ray replica. I can't bring myself to modify that car but the Ray TR6 was an awesome looking car. Kas told Jim to stay strapped in and shut off the engine. Kas popped the hood, licked his hand, and pulled each spark plug wire and touched each plug until he found the one that wasn?t hot. Swapped the plug and sent Jim back out down only half a lap.? That was the best ?Tech session? I ever attended, hearing old war stories from the glory days.
