Mike and Phil. What is the Toyota W-58 transmission? Does it bolt right up to the TR block, or is an adapter plate required? I have a Morgan and have a number of friends who have the Plus 4 model, which used the TR-3/4 engine. Most of them came with the Moss box, so folks are looking for a good 5-speed replacement.
I would not be surprised to learn that the W-58 is a bolt-up. When I was racing, I used an electronic distributor out of a Nissan/Datsun B-210 (and a number of other applications). It fit right into the TR-4 block, all I had to do was change the drive gear. And then there's the Miata. The Japanese copied a lot from the British.

A 3-4” guide pin in one of the bell housing bolt holes on the engine block and a Phillips screwdriver in a starter motor mounting hole helps a lot. Also putting the transmission in gear so you can rotate the splines by turning the tail shaft helps as well. Works on both a W-58 and a TR gearbox.Also, when you mount the pressure plate make sure the clutch alignment tool floats freely in the clutch.
