Erik;
I’m using the HVDA conversion to the Aisin W-58 5-speed. The first four gears are almost identical to the TR gearbox. 5th is very deep. The W-58 shifts smoothly and there is little chance of selecting the wrong gear as long as you have a gentle touch on the shifter. Mine was rebuilt before I installed it, yet the third gear synchro is a little weak. Using Redline MT 90.
I have been told that there are upgrades for both the synchros and fifth gear, but so far I know nothing about them or where to source them.
The clutch disc that comes with the kit is a bit weak for an uprated engine. Updated competition clutches are available from both Spec and California Clutch.
Installation of the kit is straightforward and relatively simple.
Regards,
Phil

It's been welded before, so additional welding is not looking promising. Like most A type units, it leaks like a sieve and this one seems to only intermittently engage. Therefore, I'm considering going to a 5-speed set up. Any experience with either the HVDA (Toyota based) or the Vitesse (Miata based) units? I'm a fan of originality, but I'm also tired of fighting the fun of O/D units and the fact that getting one properly rebuilt in the US seems to be very difficult.
