I am the smooth madman.
And a further fact analysis has to do with oil volume 
The limited slip unit installed inside the tiny GT6 diff case takes up way wore space than the welded spider gears. Thus the welded setup allows you to use more oil which is critical. 
Generally speaking the GT6 Differential requires more oil volume not less.
