Further investigation also showed signs of oil on the air pressure side of the unit. As a result, I?m currently rebuilding it! If you haven?t checked yours in a while, it might be worth looking at it to make sure it is still working properly. Thanks to previous research done by Greg Blake, it was easy for me to get the right size o-rings for the rebuild. Of course, you can?t just buy only two of each size through the catalogue houses and I now have significantly more o-rings than I need. I have enough extra o-rings for 9 complete sets (two o-rings for the piston and two of a different size for the end caps). These fit the 4 1/4 inch diameter, 3 quart Accusumps. I?m pretty sure these will also work for the 2 quart version as well since it is the same diameter, but I don?t have one of those to verify. I?ll sell these extras for $8 per set shipped via snail mail. Let me know if you are interested! Mine are flat top, made to order, and they will basically build them any way you want them. They can supply rings or build to match the ring specs you want. A set of six for the GT6 was $1,115 two years ago. I suspect that?s gone up. Doesn?t help you with specs, but I have had good experience with them - both the pistons and the company to deal with. Lead time in spring 2021 was about seven weeks. If you are going to bump the compression up to the point of needing to run on race gas, use forged pistons. Has something changed? I can't say how many hundreds of thousands, if not millions of County pistons are happily going up and down in engines around the world, they seem to be proved to work fine in engines that are going to run on pump gas. I've used them in a number of rebuilds and know many of us here have done the same. While everyone is listing success with vendors, I will admit that my JE pistons didn't break when I chucked a rod, I can report that Diamond also makes a fine product. I cannot speak to lead times, the last set I bought was about 5 years ago, but they were super fast delivery at that time. Regarding JE, I thought their customer service was terrible when I tried to clear up a problem that they created by shipping a set with the wrong wrist pin retainers... but that was around 20 years ago. Blueprinting the block cooling passages is a big factor in this. My last engine had +50 full races + qualifying and practice with 3% leak down on the rings. Valves needed attention several times before bottom end. Striped ring gear in 2nd under power spun at motor to 8,700 rpm where cam broke. While bottom held and still turned the result ended that motor for good. You simple blueprint TR engines like a Small Block Chevy V8 race engine. They have done all the tech and developed all the parts. That?s my 2 cents. So you can run those with no fear if set up correctly. With forged pistons set to proper clearance we would expect less sliding friction and hence more power ( the pistons are the single biggest area of friction-based parasitic loss in an engine) due to both slipper design and less distortion under load for forged pistons. ?Have been building an engine with Arias pistons (yes, they are now owned by Carillo) - it?s been a work in progress for a while, and Dave now running Wiseco pistons. They also needed the longer Carillo rods, so if I go that route I end up with a set of pistons I don?t need. ? What?s the advice from the wise ? ? Regards ? Tony? Message-ID: <235b033a3a32433dbee28205b649eec6.Gregmogdoc@surfnetusa.com> The clearance a piston skirt needs is largely determined by the expansion rate of the aluminum alloy that the pistons are made of. High silicone content forged pistons expand less and can run less clearance. The low silicone alloy forged pistons are less hard but stronger when hot, but expand a lot more. We have mostly run J&E pistons. I always ran what they recommended and never had any scoffing as long as there was the proper lubrication. Or is it just a question of not letting the engine run over hot ? I have Venolia?s in my other bigger capacity engine and they have been great, but I?m not so sure about Uk supply any more. They also needed the longer Carillo rods, so if I go that route I end up with a set of pistons I don?t need. What?s the advice from the wise ? I bought a Class C motorhome to tow with, so I don't need the RV bits in the trailer. It's in Appleton, Wisconsin. It's a 2018 model, with about 16,000 miles on it. 50-amp electrical service, propane furnace, air conditioning, microwave, good-sized electric/propane refrigerator, shower and toilet, propane water heater, lots of storage cabinets. 100-gal potable water tank, 40-gal black, 40-gal gray. Two 30-pound propane tanks. Load range E tires (5yrs old). Extra height - 8-foot ceilings. Electric tongue jack. 4-foot tongue (28 feet overall length). The trailer is by Continental Cargo, with the RV bits done by Forest River. It weighs 7,000 pounds with the 100 gallons of water on board. I towed it with my F150. It has a 20-foot awning and very bright LED work lights outside. The "garage" space is 14' 6" with six D-ring tie-downs. Two flip-down single beds with a removable table in between. It's time to do the brake service and I'll get that done before you come and get it. I'd like to get $25,500 for it. The canopy poles stay with me. I was just too lazy to unload them before taking pictures. [?] If you have any interest, let me know! Scott (B.) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Message-ID: <993B4A38-5DC0-431A-B817-C79E497546D3@multivintage.com> Yeah. Kind of a long story on all the plumbing. That was something I did last year as a development. It started out as a totally closed system with a swirl pot.... which can work well (I have a similar system on my green car) But the swirl pot I tried to use had too deep of a fall; so I couldn?t get the proper flow. I ended up removing the swirl pot and kept all the reward plumbing. It works fine for racing but doesn?t like after race paddock driving. My crew has to have the high movement fans ready when I pull under the tent. If I get stuck going too slow after a hot session it usually bubbles up. I still have no fan or alternator. Thus I?m going forward with the design and will be using a new custom made aluminum model... that of maximum size and efficiency. Details of the actual radiator to follow. When I got the car home, I took it apart and found that the outer bearing race had cracked clean across, allowing gear oil to pass bye. I had not known and also the company that built the axle with all new parts and a new TranX diff, that the standard centering pin needed to be removed from the TranX for the semi-floating Moser axles. Once things were completely installed, the axle bearings had been side loaded in tension, causing the outer race to fail. That's called, learning things the hard way. The centering pin also broke, as I found half of it lying in the axle tube after I pulled the axles. So, at least I didn't need to pull everything apart to get the pin out. My? donation should be in your account. I'd say don't spend it > all in one place, but that's the point of your solicitation, isn't it? I just got charged a few hundred dollars for URL renewal plus my monthly internet connection fee. I want to put back in my fund for paying other bills. I have hosting renewal coming up and I would like to bank money for a replacement computer and software when my 13 year old Mac Book Pro finally goes belly up. I need a large screen so I can look at both html code and the layout at the same time so it is looking like a desktop Mac in the future. I enjoy helping others and my web sites are my way of doing so. It is just that when renewals are due it means credit card debt and a couple months to pay it off. The amount they charge for internet connections is bad enough. Anyway, thank you for your donation. Any amount helps keep the sites online and me looking for more things to add. I really need to sit down and write about TR2-4A crank harmonics and strategies for taming them. I always hope people find my sites of use and am always gratified by positive feedback. Take care, ?? My first thought was a blown head gasket. So I pulled the heads and discovered nothing wrong. So I took them to my local machine shop to have them checked out. The guy at the shop told me they were true and asked about the issue. After my explanation, he told me to check the water pump housing since those were made from pot metal and it was common for the water pump to wash out holes and start pumping coolant into the oil galleries. Sure enough, he was right. I also have Teflon baffles next to the carrier bearings to limit the amount of gear oil that gets down the axle tubes. Just minutes before my first race ever, and in my TR3 in 2013 at Sonoma, suited up and ready to go, I noticed a couple drops of gear oil on my otherwise perfectly clean rear wheel while checking the lug torque.? I quickly pulled the wheels and drums and wrapped disposable shop towels on the axles and zip tied them on.? Got me thought the race without a problem. When I got the car home, I took it apart and found that the outer bearing race had cracked clean across, allowing gear oil to pass bye.?? I had not known and also the company that built the axle with all new parts and a new TranX diff, that the standard centering pin needed to be removed from the TranX for the semi-floating Moser axles.? Once things were completely installed, the axle bearings had been side loaded in tension, causing the outer race to fail. That's called, learning things the hard way.? The centering pin also broke, as I found half of it lying in the axle tube after I pulled the axles.? So, at least I didn't need to pull everything apart to get the pin out.?? Dave H.?
