I use Duplicolor DE1635 SG black engine enamel on the block & related parts; on race engines I paint the bolt-on parts w/machinery gray, so it's easy to see oil leaks, & Glyptal on the inside... IF it's perfectly clean.

I'm not too far away from painting my block as well.
Just to verify, you are just using the common Rust-Oleum, not a high heat version?

I would think that some people choose black to HIDE the leaks…. Like the factory obviously wanted to do? LOL. Gloss black is by far the worst/best for this… which I instantly regretted after trying to pinpoint a leak. Determining the leak is “everywhere” seemed to be correct at the time. Good plan with the light colors.

Good idea. Think I’ll tell them this Rustoleum Yellow. Similar to the Car and as you say, easy to see leaks, etc…

I believe black was the factory color for all models, but for a race car I’m a big fan of a lighter color. Mine are always just rustoleum gray (boring) but the benefit is it is easy to see oil leaks, see what you are working on in poor light, etc. any of the colors you suggest would be way better than black for this purpose. I will say that rustoleum holds up real well to heat, doesn’t need perfect surface prep, etc.

Sounds like I might get my motor back from the Machine Shop this week. When I talked to them they asked if I wanted the Block painted. I’m not sure. Factory motors were semi-gloss black as I remember but I do have a spare motor I have had since 1996 when I bought my car from Bob Schaller’s widow and the block on that motor is Red. I’m thinking that might be interesting or even paint it the Yellow or Green of the Car as I have some left over from when the Car was painted
