I thought it might be easier for some people to read here in text, rather than from the photo? ?Justin 2.023 Updated Motor Oil Warning!! Important message regarding critical "break-in" and "running" protection for all high performance flat-tappet hydraulic and solid lifter camshafts. Not all motor oils are created equal! Unfortunately, when installing a high-performance camshaft, most oils will not afford your new cam sufficient protection during and after the initial 'break-in' period (the mating-in of the virgin metal surfaces between cam-lobes and lifters). This is because government regulators have mandated (as of January '04) a phased reduction and the eventual elimination of the critical anti-wear additive package (zinc/phosphorus) from all "SM" rated (street legal) motor oils to protect catalytic converters. Currently, ISKY recommends the use of only the following motor oils for maximum cam lobe and lifter protection during and after the 'break-in' period because they are among the orly conventional (mineral base non-synthetic) oils available with generous levels of the critical anti-wear zinc/phosphorous additive package (at Least 1550-1600 pm for racing and up to, or exceeding 2000 ppm for break-in). Listed alphabetically, they are; ??Cen-Pe-Co (Central Petroleum Co.) 30 wt. Break-in Oil and Super Racing Oil (100% Paraffinic Base) ?Briven BR-30 Breaki Oil and their GP-1 SemI-Swathetick Racing O!! ??Mr. Race Oil SAE 30 Break-in Oil and their Drag Race / Oval Track Synthetic Blends* *(semi-synthetic and synthetic blends average about 80% conventional, 20% synthetic) We feel that the above listed motor oils are the finest available today, actually exceeding the protection levels of the former racing standard (yet no longer available) original Kendall GT-1. NOTE: WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND THE USE OF THESE 'BREAK-IN' SPECIFIC OILS for higher levels of anti-wear protection upon initial start-up and for the first 30 minutes of operation! If you do not use one of the above oils, the next best approach is to supplement other common mineral based oils with a zinc/phosphorous additive, of which only the following two are approved by ISKY: Either CAM SHIELD by Mr. Race Oil or ZDDPLUS. HOWEVER; RATHER THAN SUPPLEMENTING, YOU ARE HIGHLY ENCOURAGED TO EMPLOY THE *MORE SHEAR STABLE, ENHANCED POLYMERS IN ONE OF THE ABOVE LISTED BREAK-IN' OILS INSTEAD (ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT FOR ENGINES WITH HIGHER LIFT, MORE AGRESSIVE CAMSHAFTS, HIGHER ROCKER RATIOS, AND HEAVIER VALVE SPRING LOADING)! * * Special Note Regarding Synthetic Oils * ISKY does not recommend the use of fully synthetic oils with any flat-tappet camshaft, especially during break-in'. If you must use fully synthetic oil after break-in, there are several racing synthetics with excellent wincinhosphorous additive nookages that we are comfortable recommending such as Amocil (Rod) Raging. Oil, Cen-Pe-Co, Mr. Race Oil and Schaeffer Oil. Avoid those with very low viscosity index numbers (Ow-15, 5w-20 etc.) because of their lower film strength. However, realistically, for the sake of all flat tappet hydraulic or mechanical lifter camshafts, you'11 want to consider that no highly refined synthetic oil (with considerably higher surface tension) will wet down cam lobe surfaces as well as, a couventional mineral based oil to both lubricate and carry away heat! These two qualities are of fundamental importance for any good motor oil and particularly so for any High-Performance flat tappet camshaft installation! Lastly, even when you employ the correct oil, remember that camshafts receive no direct-pressurized lubrication to their cam lobes and therefore depend on the foggy mist or "splash" off the connecting rods for survival. Therefore, when getting ready to start the motor up, remember to immediately rev to 2000/2500 RPM and keep it there for the first 15-20 minutes of operation. Also; be sure the ignition is timed properly and fuel is in the carburetor bowl to avoid excessive cranking on the starter and pre-disposing your cam's installation to a high riok of premature wear. Reducing valve spring loading (removing the inner springs is one method) and lower rocker arm ratios are encouraged during the camshaft's critical break-in process. RACING CAMS ED ISKENDERIAN RACING. Crikey!!! That's a lot of zddp! There must be something with the JR Dragster engines that needs a ton of it! My understanding is that when it comes to ZDDP; more than enough is a bad thing! In addition, a true break in oil has ZDDP that breaks down faster than in a regular race oil. All ZDDP is not created equal. For what it's worth, I've had great luck with the Driven BR and GP1 series of break in oils, along with the PennGrade break in oils in Triumph racing and street engines. I hope to see it up close and in action. I have Panasport 5.5" and 6" for my TR3. 5.5" are the rule but 6" haven't been a problem. It looks like your fenders are massaged to fit even wider wheels and tires. Steve B. will chime in on this as VARA allows different tires than groups like CSRG and HMSA, or, HSR that organizes the Rolex race at Laguna. These race groups are more strict about period correct style tires and wheel sizes. You can look at their websites for specifics. The 6" wheels with 185/65/15 Hoosier tires fit the TR3 with stock fenders. The rears are tight even with rolled edges. I think a 205/60 will fit. I raced with Yokohamas. They rubbed on the leaf springs in hard turns before I modified the springs and installed .25" spacers. I prefer the Panasport wheels. I think they are closest to the original Mini-lite style and are high quality. I think I paid about $290 a wheel for new ones. As other have stated, there are a number of options. Rota is one of them. The Panasport "style" wheels that Moss sells are another. Spokes and knock-offs are super period correct of course and very cool. I just didn't want the added maintenance of spokes and I'm pretty sure a tube is required. Best of luck with the car. Dave H. When Bill Dentinger finally stopped running (and cracking!) his collection of ARE Silverstones on Old Blue, he put a set of the 5 1/2 X 15 Panasports on the '56 TR3. He ran Hoosier Vintage TD's, and when I got the car I switched to Hoosier Speedsters. Knowing Jeff Snook won a pair of Kastner Cups with his TR3A running 195X65R15 Speedsters, and remembering hearing Kas compliment Jeff on his choice for tire size, I went with the narrower tire. It fits the 5 1/2" wheel better, plus I don't have clearance issues with fenders. If you had witnessed Don Brick and the red wire wheels on his TR4 up close and at speed, you also would never go on track at speed on wire wheels. With sticky race tires, the front hubs followed Don's hands on the wheel, but the spokes flexed so much you could plainly see the rims and tires lagging behind! I wish we had cheap in-car cameras back then, video of that would be priceless. Now all I need to do is mention Bob Wismer, and there we have it, the original Beady Eye Vintage Triumph Racing Team! They were also cast in 6 inch width as well as 7 in, depending on what they were being used for. For reference, TR6 stock wheel width is 5.5 inches. It just so happens that I have a set of 7 of those 5.5 in wheels sitting in my attic that others in the household would love to see find a good home. I can get pictures of them, but these appear exactly like the VTO LeMans wheels pictured on the VTO web site - except narrower. The wheels I have would need to be cleaned up (media blasted) and sealed, but they are all in good condition with no curb rash at all. I'm in Massachusetts, but they can be shipped pretty reasonably by the usual carriers. Price is negotiable, but it would score me points if they move to a new home. ;-) You would have to get the mounting hardware - these wheels use a barrel-style lugnut and washer, but those are easy to get via Summit Racing or other suppliers. Well, my club and others simply say that our car must adhere to the 1972 GCR and PCS, which says 1 1/2? over the ?standard?, which is listed in the PCS. It also allows for a 2? change in track that combined with the inch and a half wheel width adjustment does not exceed a 2? wider track width. Most 6? wheels add the extra width to the outside, using up all the allowable track width, while the 5.5? would use a spacer to get there. In my mind running a 6? wheel isn't a big deal but the tech shed might disagree. BTW, rules Ialso say stock diameter. I think Triumph TR guys do a better job in sticking close to these rules, as compared to 13? and 14? competitors that are often seen with a plus size wheels! I limped into the Roadster Factory for the picnic and Charles and John Swager opened the company for me to get a new pump.? I just took everything I thought I would need, they loaned me a floor jack (to lift the engine enough to so the pully would clear the crossmember enough to remove Triumph's industrial strength fan belt) and scrounged up some antifreeze to replace what I had lost.? I changed the pump in their parking lot.? There were no questions about payment and they just sent me a bill later on for the pump plus the other parts.? I have been buying from the Roadster Factory since Charles was running the operation from his father's house and could always count on them for quality parts and advice, not to mention their support for the hobby in general!!? I hope they are able to rebuild the business.?? Built in 1972. It seems a lot of limited production racers used parts from other vehicles, so this one, for example, has ATE brake calipers, but mystery two piece brake rotors (which of course don?t match the dimensions of anything Pegasus sells), front stub axles from who-knows-what and aluminum front hubs that match the brake rotor centers, no manufacturer markings.
