[Fot] Surprised to see Bill Dentinger's trailer at Put in Bay Road Races

As the second owner of the Beady Eye trailer, at Bill’s encouragement, I had intended to repaint it and make it my own.  In the end, I couldn’t do it.  Too much of a time capsule.  And everywhere I went, hauling my Spitfire around, people stopped by and asked when the wine and cheese were coming out.  I ended up stocking some most weekends :-)

I left the autographed poster and the 8-track deck with the showtunes tapes and a bunch of other stuff in the trailer when David took it over.  That stuff belonged in the trailer.

It was in my care for 4 years, I think – 2014-2018?  But, by then, SWMBO was agitating for a trailer with a bathroom and shower and fridge and whatnot.  Didn’t seem right to be hauling my Spec Racer Ford around in it anyway…

We have invited the Dentinger/Wismer Tornado to join us at the Kastner Cup. Expect to see it on display.  Perhaps Henry will bring the Beady Eye TR3A. I would expect the Wismer TR4 to run.   A Beady Eye Reunion.

When updating the Beady Eye trailer, we found a signed poster from Ken Richardson tucked behind the workbench.  It is now prominently displayed inside the trailer.  Here are a few other detail shots.

This year’s Put in Bay Road Races honored MG and Triumph. I pulled into my assigned paddock space,
turned the ignition key on my tow vehicle to the off position and looked out the driver’s side window.
I looked at the trailer parked one space beyond and thought I was in some kind of time warp. The signage

read the signage “Beady Eye Vintage Triumph Racing Team”. There were some names of persons lettered in the
lower front corner. The top row read “Driver: Bill, grandpa, Dentinger”. I had met Bill fourteen years ago at Watkins
Glen. I was walking around with my mentor taking pictures of him with Triumph notables. The following day
I stopped over and talked to the young man working on the red Spitfire that was parked in front of the
Dentinger trailer. David said, as I recall, he is the third owner of the trailer. He said he has put new axles
under the trailer and has had the trailer gone over to ensure that it will be hauling his Spitfire for many
more miles and to many events to come.
