For some groups this puts you under the 60 profile, it that matters for your run group. I've been running this tire for quite a while, perhaps 5 years now. They were the replacement for the 225/50-15 TDS which was also a bias-ply tire. I like them a lot. You can run at pretty high slip angles and still have grip. The compound is fairly soft, don't expect to get more than 4 typical race weekends from a set. Also, you may need to play with your tire pressures, I recently discovered that I've been running my cold temps a little too low based on how the tires wear. As with most race rubber, they are at their best when new, but with proper break in (24 hours rest after the first heat cycle is the minimum you should do - one week is better) you should get 30-50 heat cycles out of them before they really give up. ?The decline is performance is gradual up to about 30 cycles. I ended up stocking some most weekends :-) I left the autographed poster and the 8-track deck with the showtunes tapes and a bunch of other stuff in the trailer when David took it over. Didn?t seem right to be hauling my Spec Racer Ford around in it anyway? Scott (B.) I took the TR3 out on Saturday afternoon for my first time ever driving on the Track then on Sunday I took the TR3 out in the first session followed by taking the Beetle out in the 2nd. Didn?t get any video of the TR3 on Saturday and my GoPro was somehow in a sped up mode on Sunday so the footage I shot in the TR3 was useless. However the footage shot from the Beetle was good. By the 6th (and last lap) of that session I managed to get a time down to a 2:14.9. Not too bad considering the top speed was less than 85 mph while running with a passenger and on tires with over 24 heat cycles. https://youtu.be/hOqiQk5Hww8 Enjoy?? A big thanks to Ernie Dixon and Jim Godwin for posting a notice on the CVBCC list about the huge Mark Smith estate auction in Lynchburg October 19-21. Over 250 classic?cars and parts will be auctioned over three days, including on day three (Oct. 21), 50+ lots of foreign car parts & collectibles, 100+ foreign cars, 200+ lots of high quality small foreign car parts. I've listed more details below. Triumph, MG, TVR, Austin Healey, Morris and Jaguar cars for auction at no reserve. An amazing collection of stuff. Want a Bugatti?radiator, Jaguar steering wheel,or a TR3? This is the place!? ? The Polk Auction site is hard to navigate, but check out this amazing video. And for the record I am a forever loyal supporter and fan of all Triumph racers and Triumph cars - Have been for over 40 years. I support and cheer for all of them regardless of what parts they use to race well. The 6 cylinder cars bring a slightly different set of arguments to the table. Compared to ?stock? the Webber option is great because it increases the potential fuel and air delivery from 2 small units to 6 large units. A substantial modification always involving a custom intake manifold with added throats. A production category modification that was simply not allowed for GT6 racecars in Any of the historic regulations that most vintage organizations claim to adhere to. Slowly, as the 3rd, 4th, and 5th decades of GT6 racing entered into a more modern era, some organizations started allowing cars with the ?cheater carbs? for the GT6 platform. I don?t mind if people run them in any organization. I may soon be forced to run them myself. And in my lifelong GT6 racing family they will always factually be referred to as ?Cheater carbs? ?As we?ve been calling them that for decades. CVAR allowed the Triumph's to all run in Group 2 and set up a delayed, all Triumph race start for us. Due to that delay we got caught by the two fastest Sprites on the last lap. Only the first 3 cars are in the video, but there was a Spitfire, TR4 and for part of the race (transmission failure) a second GT6. These huge tires do stick well but then they let go with not much warning. With these old rain tires.....man, that engine just changed between wheel spin or overbraking the back end from just going off throttle. You can see how the car is waving towards a corner because the back wheels are going slower than the car just from that engine drag. But the good thing, when I dried out, the old rain tires were the right compound to drive on the dry surface. Then it was easier on the dry patches. Lesson learned....the AVON rain tires don't last longer than 4 year, better replacing them after 3 years. Cheers Chris -----Urspr?ngliche Nachricht----- Von: Jason Ostrowski Gesendet: Sonntag, 16. That thing is so on the edge setup..if one little thing is not perfect, the car gets crazy. When I load it off the trailer in the paddock and drove a few yards I saw the steering wheel pointing to the right side. The coil over spring came lose on the front right and the wheel load was too low. The car shows every little misadjustment. Good that I found it in advance to the first run. The car is fast but not an easy ride and quite a challenge to keep it on the road. On the other hand, it can win races and that's all about. I guess at Pittsburgh it could have done 1:55 or something. Cheers Chris Von: Terry Stetler Gesendet: Sonntag, 16. A whole door would be easiest to deal with if you have one in good shape. Don?t care about the paint as I will strip it to bare metal, but the idea is to give the body guy something he doesn?t need to spend much time on - no rust and very minimal fill/smoothing work. The other parts are intriguing - most of us collect parts for ?when we might need them?, right? The car?s quarter panel was heavily altered with a steel flare back in the day, and most of the damage is to the flare, which intrudes well up the factory body panel. However, I might need one someday! If you have a good LH door, would you be willing to drop it at a UPS store - I?ll pay for shipping, of course. What do you have in mind, price-wise, for the door, and for the other stuff (which I would pick up at another time). What I?m really interested in that?s in your garages is that e-type . . . For many of us who have raced vintage sports cars in the Midwest, you will likely have fond memories of Ray Freiwald making good use of the track in his P1800. Ray (84 yrs old) recently passed away, shortly after returning home from one of his infamous vigorous bicycle rides in the countryside around Janesville, WI.?? ? ? I believe Ray had seat time in a vintage race car for nearly 60 yrs. He was a man with a big heart and shared his mechanical expertise and wisdom of life with so many us, regardless of what you were racing. His shop, Foreign Auto Specialists, helped keep 100's of wonderful vintage cars in operation around the Midwest.? In 1986, he was the driving instructor for my introduction to racing via SCCA in my Dodge Omni GLH. He then helped me locate my first Triumph TR3a to set up for vintage racing. My dad Mike told me I would learn a lot by watching how Ray drives. I tried to study his line as I followed him around the track for 4 or 5 laps. He sure knew the fast line in his blue Volvo P1800. His car had tons of body roll and he just took off and I couldn?t catch him. On the track, Ray was one of those drivers that you could trust 100%. Off track, he seemed kind and soft spoken. I didn't know Ray that well, but we talked many years back, late 70's. Met him at the MCSCC driver's school in 77 when I got started. I had the pleasure of some small talk at an MCSCC driver's school a few years back when I had a student he was helping with a 944. A great guy in so many ways. He will be missed by many more than we'll ever know. RIP and I look forward to seeing you again on the big track above. Ralph? I have a stack of about 10 or 12 original radiators that are going to the scrap yard tomorrow with a bunch of other items. I?m borrowing a friends dump trailer in the morning. It?s going to be a heavy load. I think if someone wanted a date coded unit with the original stamped plates in tack for a concourse restoration, that would be the only reason to save them. Dave H.
