[Fot] magnetized crankshaft

It may have fallen over aligned North to South. That is one way to magnetize iron things, although the effective is usually small. More likely not was a faulty magna flux job.  I mention it only to suggest you check for damage/bending when you get it demagnetized which is a good idea.
