Fellow FOT'ers,
          If you ever wanted to attend a historic event, then this is a race you have to do at least once. It's run by Jack Woehrle, who is the former chief of SVRA, and he started this even in 2010, It's a short ferry trip to Put in Bay island and the races are run on the airport. The layout is 1.5 miles of short straights and sharp corners, with top speeds of 90 mph in my TR6.
I've run the event for 5 years, but attended all events, and it's a blast driving the old historic 3-mile course through the streets of Put In Bay for a re-enactment of the races held back in the 50's. This year they are featuring a Triumph vs. MG race, and all Triumph and MG entries receive a $50 discount from the regular entry fee of $400. It's held during the week, and I recommend coming up on Tuesday and going home either late Thursday after the races or Friday morning. You can rent Condo's or hotels rooms in advance; don wait until you get on the Island to look for a place to stay. Check it out and if you can join me, I'll have my #75 PLN tribute car and the original #12 Kastner Brophy TR6! I'd love to see a bunch of Triumphs hit the Island this year. There is an entry limit due to space, so if want to attend enter early, and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

I would like to nominate Lyman Scherer for inclusion into the FOT. Lyman
has restored an interesting TR3 racer. It started life as an offroad racing
machine that was entered into the very first Mexican 1000 (1967), now
called the NORRA Baja 1000. It failed to finish and was left where it broke
in the Mexican desert. It was rediscovered in 1998 by Alan Brickey, while
working for Ivan Stewart's trophy truck efforts in the Baja 1000.

While camping between checkpoint locations, nature called and Alan happened
upon the half buried, more than half gone TR3 that had been soaking up the
desert sun for so many years. Alan brought the desert hulk back to the US,
where he sold it to a gentleman that sold it to Lyman. Lyman rebuilt it
with the help of a donor car and was able to enter it into the 50th
anniversary Baja 1000 in 2017. He even contacted some of the names scribed
on the side of what panels were left on the car and has tracked down a good
amount of history on the car.

After the 50th anniversary Baja 1000 race, the car went on display at the
Petersen Auto Museum in LA in their "Extreme Conditions" exhibit, where it
stayed until last year. Once back in Lyman's hands, he has converted it
back to a road racer and wishes to join the Kastner Cup race in Pittsburgh.
The car will be piloted by Dave Riddle.

two categories. Drivers or Crew. Drivers are active and former drivers
who turn (or have turned) the steering wheel in sanctioned competition
in a Triumph or Triumph powered race car. Anyone not falling into that
category will now be referred to as Crew.

Only Drivers can sponsor new members. If the new member is an active or
former driver, it's a done deal, we have a new FOT member. No seconds
needed, we are counting on our existing Driver members to vet the new
folks they sponsor. If a Driver wants to sponsor someone who is not
another driver, i.e. become part of the FOT Crew, or someone who is
actively on the path to becoming a driver in a Triumph they should
submit that request to our membership committee through me.

We think this clarification makes sense to keep our membership on point
and strong. The FOT is proudly keeping Triumphs on track and relevant!

 Not that it makes much difference to me personally ,but does that mean this last one is not valid?
I didn't realize the nomination process had changed.
Also, I restored a TR7 race car, never drove it in competition but have nominated many of the TR7/8 drivers who are now members. Includes Peter Bulkowski, Christian Marx, Lance Guymon and Curt Johnston to name some.
Looking for new blood, I think this group needs crazy enthusiasts (like me) , who have the time to fuss about the sport and are not consumed trying to get a car ready? and the committment of time required to participate in racing.
Just my opinion, but I think Fot is missing the boat on this one.

Only Drivers can sponsor new members. If the new member is an active or
former driver, it's a done deal, we have a new FOT member. No seconds
needed, we are counting on our existing Driver members to vet the new
folks they sponsor. If a Driver wants to sponsor someone who is not
another driver, i.e. become part of the FOT Crew, or someone who is
actively on the path to becoming a driver in a Triumph they should
submit that request to our membership committee through me.

We think this clarification makes sense to keep our membership on point
and strong. The FOT is proudly keeping Triumphs on track and relevant!

I would like to nominate Lyman Scherer for inclusion into the FOT. Lyman has restored an interesting TR3 racer. It started life as an offroad racing machine that was entered into the very first Mexican 1000 (1967), now called the NORRA Baja 1000. It failed to finish and was left where it broke in the Mexican desert. It was rediscovered in 1998 by Alan Brickey, while working for Ivan Stewart's trophy truck efforts in the Baja 1000.

While camping between checkpoint locations, nature called and Alan happened upon the half buried, more than half gone TR3 that had been soaking up the desert sun for so many years. Alan brought the desert hulk back to the US, where he sold it to a gentleman that sold it to Lyman. Lyman rebuilt it with the help of a donor car and was able to enter it into the 50th anniversary Baja 1000 in 2017. He even contacted some of the names scribed on the side of what panels were left on the car and has tracked down a good amount of history on the car.

After the 50th anniversary Baja 1000 race, the car went on display at the Petersen Auto Museum in LA in their "Extreme Conditions" exhibit, where it stayed until last year. Once back in Lyman's hands, he has converted it back to a road racer and wishes to join the Kastner Cup race in Pittsburgh. The car will be piloted by Dave Riddle.

Hi,
I have two ea. 4.33 gear sets for big Triumphs that have been sitting on the shelf for too long.
One is brand-new, never installed, never used. The other was installed in my race car for around 7 autocross seasons, figure maybe 200 miles on it.
I'm pretty sure both a Bastuck - they def. came form Germany when I bought them (via Carsten Conrads) - figure 2001-ish.
$500 for the new one, $450 for the used one.
Ping me off list for any discussion. I'd rather not have to deal with eBay (or Facebook MktPlace), but will list them there is there's no interest here.

I'm looking for the dimensions for a 1500 single carb manifold and carb to see if I can use one on an oddball project of mine (a 1958 Standard 10 Estate). I have a rather constricted area to try and fit into as the car is RHD, so the master cylinders are close, and the fenderwell is quite close to the engine.?I need the overall width from head face to outside of carb and the width of the carb from the centerline (or each end of the manifold).
I've attached a photo of the area for reference.

Amici fellow enthusiasts!
Good news, I finally have the steel Syncro Rings with a carbon friction surface in my hands, It only took 16 months, ha. I have the TR3,4,6 and 250 Syncro tooling being made currently with Datsun, Porsche and T10 parts next in line.
These Rings fit the Spit and GT6 large Syncro box's only and will not fit the small Syncro box's (early). Please make sure have a large Sycro box before ordering. I have a no drama policy, you buy em, you own em, period.
The target price I set was $75 but they came in at $85 each which I think is still a steal for these pieces.. I did put them out there at $75 on FOT so I will honor that price for the next 10 days for FOT'ers only, on 2/22 they go to $85 each. A flat shipping fee of $10 will be will be added to the order and I get get them out today.

Thanks for being patient, I do believe these rings will change your life on the street and especially at the track, seize the day my friends!

Subject: [Fot] Display Pavilion. Donated to the FOT & HOF by our TR Friends
 in Texas.

The FOT/HOF Display Pavilion has been refurbished and will be getting new signage.

This is being spearheaded by Gary Kincel of the British Sports Car Hall of and will be supported by the WPTA.

It will be first used at the Pittsburgh ConventionCenter to display Classic Cars and to promote the PVGP, this February.

It will be also used at Pitt-Race to display significant Triumph Cars in the FOT Paddock.

Next, it will be at Schenely Park during the British Car Show and the PVGP street races.

Another planned use is expected to be at the Moss Motorfest and British Sports Car Hall of Famein June of 2023. This will be a huge event that includes the 75th Anniversary of the founding of Moss Motors. 

We can be proud??thank you Texas Triumphs!

Good news, I finally have the steel Syncro Rings with a carbon friction surface in my hands, It only took 16 months, ha. I have the TR3,4,6 and 250 Syncro tooling being made currently with Datsun, Porsche and T10 parts next in line.
These Rings fit the Spit and GT6 large Syncro box's only and will not fit the small Syncro box's (early). Please make sure have a large Sycro box before ordering. I have a no drama policy, you buy em, you own em, period.
The target price I set was $75 but they came in at $85 each which I think is still a steal for these pieces.. I did put them out there at $75 on FOT so I will honor that price for the next 10 days for FOT'ers only, on 2/22 they go to $85 each. A flat shipping fee of $10 will be will be added to the order and I get get them out today.

Thanks for being patient, I do believe these rings will change your life on the street and especially at the track, seize the day my friends!

of the FOT's unwashed masses. Paul has been working on restoring a Bugeye
race car but just took possession of a Spitfire and now is on the dark
side. He's an SCCA licensed driver from the Albany, NY area and will be
racing mostly with HRG.

Henry says Paul has to keep my cooler filled with beer, is that the new
rule?

Good Morning;

 

I have been able to find four TR 3/4 cam blanks in Europe, thanks to Chris
Marx.  I have an order fir one 298dx cam and need a second order to make
this purchase work.  As you all know this cam is a Larry Young design and a
great cam for a vintage racer.  If you are interested please contact me
directly and I will give you an estimate of the cost for a fully ground cam.
As you can imagine new quality cam blanks are a bit thin on the ground these
days and with everything going on.  Finding this batch was tough.  It might
be a good time to salt one away for a future engine.  Cams do not last
forever.

Just one of those days. New Spax shocks arrive. Install time. 1 bolt, 2
nuts and done, right?

Nope...that is far too easy. Koni shocks hold the spring in place with an
outside collar, Spax with an inside collar. The inside collar diameter is
2.65 inches.

What's the problem? The inside diameter of my spring is 2.58 inches. They
don't fit over the collar.

I am assuming I have factory competition springs from in period that I
don't want to let go of.

Go figure...I guess my only solution is to ruin all that pretty powder
coating and turn down the collar to fit...

Put the collar under the plate. They also make bearings for springs that allow easier adjustment.

My daughter and her fianc?e are driving a pickup and flatbed trailer empty
from San Antonio, Texas to Albuquerque, New  Mexico on March 4th then
returning to Texas a few days later with a Spitfire on the trailer. There

A great picture of Kas at what may be the pinnacle of his Motorsports Career.

This week, we will be taking Kas? personal collection of items, that relate to his Nissan Years, to Nissan Corporate in Franklin, TN.  Eventually, these items will become a display honoring Kas and his involvement as Vice-President of Nissan?s Motor Sports Division.  (Nissan Performance Technologies, Inc.) The display will reside at Nissan Heritage Museum in Nashville, TN. in association with the Lane Museum.  The famous GTP #83 is there. I will try to get some pictures to share with the FOT.

Kas had a Video collection of his Nissan years with many interviews of him and his drivers and footage of the races and testing sessions.
It is about 1 hour long and entertaining to watch.
Maybe you have already found it under his stuff.

Way before Moss Motors offered their nicely constructed kit to attach a
Toyota W58 5 speed transmission to a TR6 engine I had done my own
modification which is not as tidy but it has served me well for 5 years now.
I have acquired a second W58 transmission which I have rebuilt and wish to
have it ready to swap out as needed but I need a modified TR6 bell housing
to bolt onto the front of my 5 speed transmission. In the past I had this
work done here in Albuquerque but that machine shop closed down due to
Covid-19. Do any FOT members know of a source for this work? I have a nice
TR6 transmission bell housing to use as a core.

Eaglegate used to manufacture these, then had someone like Edelbrock cast a
bellhousing, now I believe Mark Canady is doing them.  I had bought 3
Eaglegate conversions, now gone.

Not sure if the following info is still good.

Way before Moss Motors offered their nicely constructed kit to attach a
Toyota W58 5 speed transmission to a TR6 engine I had done my own
modification which is not as tidy but it has served me well for 5 years now.
I have acquired a second W58 transmission which I have rebuilt and wish to
have it ready to swap out as needed but I need a modified TR6 bell housing
to bolt onto the front of my 5 speed transmission. In the past I had this
work done here in Albuquerque but that machine shop closed down due to
Covid-19. Do any FOT members know of a source for this work? I have a nice
TR6 transmission bell housing to use as a core.

I?ve stripped a factory overdrive 1970 TR6 (that was sitting for several 
years) for the short block, gearbox, and sheet metal. I have numerous 
parts available if anyone is interested. The following is a list of some 
of, but not all:

Decent soft top frame
Windscreen frame and glass
Aftermarket roll bar
Front and rear marker lights
Door catches
Trunk deck catch
All hinges
Steering wheel
Fuel tank
Differential
Driveshaft
Original bolts and fasteners, etc

Frame is good except for some rust where the outside of the trailing 
arms mount. If interested in the frame, you can buy it as is, or I will 
repair it and price it accordingly. It comes with the title and vin 
number plates.

If you need something that is not on the list contact me privately, and 
I?ll check if I have it and it?s decent. Depending on what it is, you 
can have it for no cost other than shipping.

At Huffaker Engineering Joe worked as hard as anyone in his employ, spending long hours on the dyno, the prep shop, handling customers & running the fickle business that is racing. To have succeeded as Joe did is testimony to his abilities. Even when things were not going well, Joe would flash a big smile, shrug & get on with a solution?& it was usually the right one. Our thoughts go out to his wife Jean & family.

I realized after almost ten years that I don?t have plans or time to get to this project.  I bought it from Dave Talbott - Dave?s write-up on the car is posted below, along with a few photos he had.  Though the body photo shows it off the frame, it is currently mounted to the finished chassis.  The car has a beautiful paint job - too good for a race car - and the frame and suspension bits are powder coated.  It?s super clean - you could eat off the underside.
I had planned to put it back in race car form given the history Dave describes, but it could easily be a street car or a V8 conversion, for you non-purists.  The body and frame show no signs of rust or accidents ever - right now they look as good or better than when they came out of the factory - certainly the frame does. If someone has a car with major terminal rust, this is a great fit.
In addition to what?s in Dave?s description, I have several heads, several cranks, an un-rebuilt (i.e., old) engine, transmission, seats, spare body panels for everything but the hood, much other stuff - the result of owning two other TR4s, one racing, one street, that  I sold without all their spares.  Gauges, door hardware, lights, trim, etc all come with the car.  The engine is from a TR4A-IRS car.  Door jambs, trunk, floors, etc all have a beautiful glossy paint finish with no signs of work or damage anywhere.  It?s really just a big assembly job, along with rebuilding the engine and transmission.  For street car use, there is no windshield or frame.  I think i have a top frame in my parts collection.

The car is rolling on old, crusty stock steel wheels and ancient mismatched bias plies.

I?m looking for $9,300 for the lot.  Located just north of Philadelphia PA.  I could deliver within a modest distance-say 200 miles. Right now the car is sitting in a storage unit under a car cover, as I ran out of garage space. It has been indoors and covered since I bought it, and was when Dave had it, so it looks terrific.  If someone has serious interest, I can haul it out and take photos, but it really it is as described.

TR4 Rolling Chassis for Sale

This 1963 solid axle car originally started out life as a D Production club racer that was built and driven by Bob Maloney here in the Pacific NW, and I became its second owner in 1968. I raced the car for three years before catching the ?real? race car bug (Formula Fords), and it was stored until 1978 when I sold it to an aspiring local racer and lost track of it. About 10 years ago I was contacted by the then owner who, with the help of a partner, was restoring the car as a vintage racer. They had found my name listed as the last person to have titled the car, and they wondered if I was that same person, and if so if I might fill them in on its early history. Long story short, the partnership later got a bit stale and I ended up buying back the unfinished project several years ago, but given the current business climate, I have a greater need for the money, so I?d like to find it a new home.

The car had never sustained any significant crash damage, and even prior to restoration it was in a very straight, rust free condition. I have corrected the one very obvious non-standard modification (the front mounting points of the rear springs), and I have developed templates and fabricated components for both the roll cage and a fuel cell; however I had not yet commenced the frame and body modifications that the installation of those would involve. I?m hopeful that someone from the FoT may be interested in this as a racer, but if I don?t see a response soon, it?s headed for eBay as I think it could easily be turned back into a very nice street car. 

The car is being sold without an engine or transmission. The frame and all the body components were chemically stripped and the frame and many of the suspension items have been powder coated. The body has been finished with a catalyzed Sikkens Acryl system. A body man who has previously done some very nice restoration work for me looked the body over and was quite pleased with the level of the work, although he pointed out that a few of the body parts still require block sanding and final buffing. The only non-original body part is the front valance with an oval duct that was a new TR 250 part that I had put on the car in the late 60?s to take advantage of the opening for air flow to an oil cooler.

The relocation of the front mounting points for the rear springs was apparently intended to change the roll center; however that resulted in vertical steel tubes protruding through the floors, and on the driver?s side this happened to be right where my big ass needed to fit. I cut the tubes from the frame and made templates from the holes in the tub and cut the sheet metal bits out of a donor car and then welded them into place. You will see from the photos that one side has been completed and primed and the other has just been welded into place. The frame-reinforcement work consists of the addition of a 1/8? steel plates welded to the tops of the center cruciform, the boxing in of the cross channels and gusseting of the front suspension connection points and several areas of the front towers that are evident in the photos.  Scott- these two patches in the body would be in the area behind the seats, and covered by carpet, though they are very nicely executed.  If you were to look at the frame, you will see no evidence of the tubes he references being cut away.

The front suspension has been rebuilt with new bushings and many new parts including trunions, ball joints and tie rod ends. The upper control arms have been modified for camber adjustment and fasteners have been upgraded throughout. I have not measured the front spring rates or lengths, but I do not think they are stock. A pair of new Koni shocks (still in their original box) is included

The front brakes are apparently Jaguar calipers with slotted rotors and a second set of new rotors is included. The rear brakes have been rebuilt including new cylinders and new Datsun finned aluminum drums. As with the front springs, I?m not certain about the spec?s on the rear leaf springs.

 Scott - the front brakes were bolt-on alterations and can easily be reversed. Rotors and calipers are easily available.

The rear axle has been rebuilt with new inner and outer bearings; however it has stock axle shafts and has not received the Southwick modifications. The rear shocks are rebuilt lever arm shocks that I assume have stock valving.

There are a variety of TR4-specific items that will go with the car including an assortment of sway bars, a new Plexiglas windscreen (that was based on the original), a new tunnel cover, roto-molded fuel cell, aluminum interior panels, extra fenders for all four corners, and various bits and pieces that are shown in the photos.

 The car has been fitted with an adjustable bias dual master cylinder brake/clutch cylinder system 

The steering shaft is fitted with a hex male coupling end to accept a Wilwood-style quick disconnect hub.
