I should have them by the end of January. We have moved out of our house and I apparently put the box of TR6 sample parts for the next order on the moving trailer. So I need a TR4-6 gear, slider assembly and syncro ring to send out for engineering and tooling. The parts must be in very good condition, preferably NOS and you may not get them back but I will try. In exchange I will give you a set of 4 rings free of charge when they are complete.? Thanks for the help! I use Stoddard solvent in my main parts cleaner; a Snap On that my neighbor threw out! I always wear elbow high gloves when cleaning parts with it and rinse the parts with hot water. Works well. Mc Master Carr sells a solvent that is easier on my skin. I use it in a smaller washer. Bicycle parts and such. As for HF: you gets what you pays for. Not a big fan or kerosene for cleaning. Or especially gasoline. Check McMaster Carr; they probably have a replacement pump for your unit. They are near Cleveland and have a huge amount of products. If they ain't got it you probably don't need it! NFI. Cheers, Bill On 12/3/2021 1:53 PM, Brian Schirano via Fot wrote: > Hey Kids > > My HF parts washer is now a solvent tank.? The Purple stuff is considered a degreaser and also removes paint. I have been resurrecting a 1986 BMW R80 motorcycle that had been in storage for 25 years. The red factory fuel tank sealer was flaking off causing issues. I poured in a gallon and a half of the Purple stuff, rotating the tank in a number of positions over a couple days and all the liner completely dissolved. Problem solved. I've used this stuff for cleaning greasy and grimy nuts and bolts and other items like brackets and tools. I just leave the bits in a 5 gallon bucket over night, then strain off the cleaning agent, then hosing off the items. This system has been working great. Simple Green will work similarly. I clean carburetors in containers over night. Full strength can be over kill and can tarnish alloys, but I haven't seen this with the Purple stuff. This approach has worked well with great results. Both the Purple stuff and Simple Green can be diluted with water. The transition from Toyo to Hoosier radials was a non event for me, changed them in the same weekend, seamless, may be just me, but I don't recall noticing a difference. That said I don't have a particularly sophisticated pallet for beer or wine either, kinda only know when I *don't* like something. And the piston can be shorter with less mass. Longer rods lead to less thrust loading of the piston against the cylinder wall. Less friction for more power and less wear. There's also the argument of rod length to stroke ratio, but I doubt we are making enough change here to count this as a benefit. I can't say exactly how much power it's really worth, .... but if you are ordering custom pistons and rods anyways, it doesn't add any cost to make them "better". They also essentially have the same block (same dimensions, anyway, though the TR6 block is heavier and has bulges on the manifold side). Because the TR6 has a stroker crank, the same pistons as the GT6 would end up colliding with the head. So, they raised the wrist pin height on the TR6 pistons to adjust for the stroke difference. Jason is right on the advantages. Piston cost should be the same - not sure if rods will cost more as they may be truly custom, versus what?s available for these engines. Maybe it?s worth it? On Dec 6, 2021, at 10:38 AM, Jason Sukey via Fot wrote: Hi PJ, In theory, the closer the wrist pin is to the top of the piston, the more stable the piston is in the bore; the rings will seal better. The extra stroke of the TR6 motor makes building compression easy. The 2L motor is a little more challenging because of the shorter stroke. You just can?t shave enough off the head to get really high compression without getting into the water passages. Pop ups are necessary to maximize compression. If you can get the piston to valve clearance to (intake .055, exhaust .110) ((make sure you are using good valve springs!)) you will have about 210-230psi cranking pressure depending on you camshaft specs which is good enough. I like to see closer to 250psi + but its tough to get there with the small motors. The dynamic compression is a better indicator of what's going on in the motor. The static compression "in my opinion" is not the best way to look at things because you can have 15-1 static compression with a cam that's too large and end up with 210lbs of cranking pressure, you would be better off to have an 11-1 motor with the right camshaft at 110psi of cranking pressure. Both engines would make about the same top end HP but the 11-1 motor will have a ton of bottom and midrange comparatively speaking making it a way better race motor. Just my overly wordy 2 cents, haha. Tuning procedure for Webers should also work just fine, although I never found an off-idle response I liked, they liked to spit and cough at light throttle. Don't know if that's me, lack of vacuum lines or just the fact that they only billed them as racing carbs. I did find gasket sets a decade ago from OER, order hopefully attached. I have a print manual (more like a pamphlet) somewhere, I'll root around the shop tomorrow and try to find it. The owner had died a while back and a local ?car guy? was selling it for the owner?s widow. My intentions were to rebuild the motor for a backup for my race car and salvage whatever other parts I could for backups, trading, etc. To my surprise when I got it home, it had a type ?A? overdrive in it, and I subsequently learned that the Vin number ending in ?L O?? is apparently an original factory left hand drive unit with a factory overdrive. I was told these cars are sought after by some collectors, and it would be ashamed to end its life. I have the car mostly disassembled and have no intentions to personally restore it, but thought if someone is interested in purchasing it as a ?Whole? for restoration purposes, we can probably work something out; otherwise I am going to follow through with my original plan. The car has a Maryland title, matching serial number ?CC 5***6 L O? on the windscreen and door plate. It also includes the original motor and ?A? Type gearbox. It would need a complete restoration and many new parts. If there is any interest please contact me and I?ll answer any questions you may have. I am putting together an order for BRAND NEW reduction gear starters to be placed next weekend. Listed are the common Triumph units only, hundreds more applications available for foreign and domestic vehicles. The majority are Denso units with a few being Hitachi. All have a 1 year unit only warranty, yes even on a race car. Moss sells same brand unit for a Spitfire for 290.00, current actual retail is 220.00 per price sheet. For FOT members I will discount 20.00 per unit and ship for free. Email for this deal is: apex2apexmototrsports at yahoo.com, or reply to this email. Just say you are an FOT member and its a deal. We use PayPal and are now set up for credit cards. Thank You for listening. For my setup, I use 1/8 NPT to dash 4 AN fittings in the front two main bearing feeds in the block. These go back to a "Tee" bolted to where the coil was originally mounted, fed by a dash 6 AN line tapped into the oil filter adapter. This has worked quite well for me. Others go full external feed to all of the mains, I know that also works well.
