Subject: Re: [Fot] Shipping Options?
Many years ago I had a rebuilt overdrive shipped to me in a cardboard box weight minimal packing material to protect it. It arrived with the part of the aluminum gear box that supports the stick shift snapped off. It had to have fallen hard. That cardboard box offered little protection.
Do take the time to crate it up. If you’re handy, think about minimizing weight. I went overboard during that incident and built a heavy, heavy duty crate to ship the broken trans back in so that it’s replacement would be shipped back in that crate! No doubt, that extra weight cost money! (I don’t recall the shipper and costs.)
Add handles or whatever helps to make it easier for shippers to move it safely.

I shipped a Miata trans to be rebuilt this year via UPS for $150 (95#}. Since it was going to be shipped back me I bought and used a transmission shipping box (Amazon about $100). I have heard of people using igloo coolers to ship trans. Might be less than the fee to have pack and ship pack it?
If you set up a UPS account you get lower shipping rates than retail. Joe B.

Is there a better way to do that than taking it down to my local “pack-n-ship” store where it always seems to cost a mint? Or, in the alternative, is there anyone headed past Wisconsin and through Ohio anytime soon? Scott (B.) _______________________________________________
