[Fot] Mufflers?

Hi - I'm running a 12.5:1 TR6 motor with a Goodparts header and a single 12" glass-pack and a turn-down (indexed to point away from the sound meter). This weekend past at Thompson, CT (local to you, Brian) I was under 95 dba according to the sheets that I saw. I need to confirm that with the Chief of Sound because there was some confusion about the TRACK limit of 100 dba measured on the front straight at start/finish - I'm not sure what the distance from the track is, but it's gotta be either 50 or 75 feet. I ran a lot of different lines at start finish due to traffic, and sounds never called me in (no black flags). And if you know sound, the distance from the source makes a HUGE difference in the readings. FWIW, the SCCA GCR now has a sound limit published and that includes the distance from the sound meter. But you probably know that already.

I would concur from others that run them that they spiral core mufflers out there will probably keep you under the sound limits for Thompson (and probably Palmer too.) I know Solo folks running the spiral core and they meet the even stricter sound limits in Solo (for local venues like Devens in Ayer, MA).

Contrary to others' reports, I don't detect any power loss with this setup, but I've never dyno'd the straight-pipe setup. My old setup with the Dynomax "turbo" muffler was quiet as a mouse at WOT and I never set off sound and (apparently) I was making "plenty of power". The problem with that setup is that it takes up too much space under the car and your GT6 would be even more cramped for the space unless you run the pipes into the passenger foot well and out the right side of the car (not that I've ever tried to figure out how to do that)

I had no idea that there are noise limits in USA for race cars.

Thought that is only in Europe.

Cheers

Chris

What are folks using on GT6 to get noise down to 98db? Full race 12:1 2.0L. Most local (New England) tracks have noise rules. Some have open exhaust days but are limited.

Thanks, Brian
