[Fot] gear ratios

Assuming the diff is out of the car.

1. Rotate 1 stub axle. If the other stub axle rotates the same direction it is either a posi track diff or the spider gears have been welded. If the other stub axle rotates in opposite direction it is an open diff.

2. Assuming both stub axles rotate same direction:

1. Match mark 1 stub axle and input pinion flange.
2. Rotate stub axle 360 degrees while counting the number of revs the pinion flange turns and look at where match mark on pinion flange ends up.
3. If pinion flange rotated:
o 4 1/2 turns gear ratio is 4.5 : 1.0
o A little more than 4 revs ratio is 4.11 : 1.0
o A little less than 4 revs ratio is 3.89 :1.0
o 3 1/4 revs ratio is 3.26 :1.0
4. Assuming stub axles rotate in opposite directions
o block 1 stub axle from turning with a bolt inserted in a axle mounting hole.
o rotate the free stub axle clockwise until opposite stub axle does not turn.
o match mark free stub axle and pinion flange
o Now rotate free stub axle 2 revolutions while counting pinion flange revs
o Go to step 3 above for ratios.
