[Fot] bike engine oil for overdrive gearbox?

Hallo Kas, 
I would try a bike oil, because these oil ought to be be suitable for a gearbox, because, in a bike, engine and gearbox have a common oilcirculation, so there should be no worries about the gears in the gearbox and overdrive. Less friction would mean cooler oil as a result, but maybe todays friction modifiers are more effective?

Just for what it might be worth, I used a synthetic oil back in late 1959 to see if its resistance to heat would hlep, no change. The only thing that made the difference was a cooler on the trnsmission oil. 


Never be beaten by equipment.

Like most TR racers I believe that an overdrive gearbox is worth some laptime on most racetracks. But there are some drawbacks :9.5kgs weight penalty and the gap between 4th gear and 4th overdrive gear is too big.
