Hi Todd.  I have a TR-2 and TR-3 street cars.  Both have cams, compression and are balanced, etc. but not quite "full race", generating about 125 HP.  I wanted a system that would sound good, and last many years of street use.  I finished restoring my TR-2 in 1992.  I put on a stock stainless steel muffler (the TR-2 did not have a resonator), and ran a 2" stainless steel tube out the back of the car in the stock location.  When I held up the muffler, and looked through it, there were no baffles.  The sound deadening was with material packed around the hole going through the middle of the muffler.  I think this was pretty much the stock design back in the mid-50's.  The system sounds great, looks stock, and after 26 years, no problems, no rust, or other damage.

I restored my TR-3 in 2012, and did basically the same thing as on my TR-2.  The stock configuration on the TR-3 included a resonator, but I left it off and went with the stainless steel stock muffler and straight pipe out the back.  Again, it sounds great, looks stock, and has shown no problems.  The sound is a little different than the TR-2, but it still sounds great.  The difference may be a small design change in the muffler between 1992 and 2012.

If I did another 4 cylinder TR, I'd do the same thing again.  Good luck.

Jack

I have the header and collector.  I'm looking for what you have done
from that point back.

It's going to be a street-track car.  I've read Kas's book on optimal
length/diameter vs power.  I don't think I want a straight pipe. (Maybe
I do!)  What's the best sounding and breathing system for these 4
bangers?

Will it sound like 1/3 a Ferrari v12?

Thanks
Todd
