[Fot] GT6 differential and general question

I got some good suggestions on how to remove this bush, including Randall’s below and Fred’s, but Mark Craig reminded me that I may not want to use a helicoil, which might fail at the track, and I’m better off starting over with another differential housing. As I only have about seven of them, I have no good excuse other than I was feeling lazy about starting the whole process over.

Better than a ruined track weekend, and good thing I did not need this spare for the last two years I’ve been hauling it around. I had mostly rebuilt it but was never quite satisfied with the lash. However, I torqued it up and figured it would do in a pinch. I guess the last time I tightened the bolts, the one bolt must have been hanging on by a thread (is that where the saying came from?) and re-adjusting the lash five times must have done it in.

Thanks as always to the group for the good advice and for getting me back on track.

It's possible I'm confused, but I think you're talking about what the
British call a "Bush, bearing cap".
TRF seems to have them available, P/N 60070, $1.35 each.

Here's the parts diagram I looked at (since I'm away from home where I have
a paper copy)

You might also try to find a tap that will just barely bite into the inside
diameter. Looks like maybe 10mm would do. You'll also need something for a
spacer that will fit over the bush, probably a cutoff bit of 1/2" cast iron
water pipe would do. Turn the tap into the bush just a short distance, then
drop the spacer and a heavy flat washer over the tap, and turn a nut down
the tap. Should walk the bushing right out. I've not tried this on a GT6
diff, but it works well in similar situations.

Of course the threads will weaken the bush a bit, you'll have to judge how
critical that is. IMO the bush is mostly to make sure the cap is precisely
aligned, and the bush takes little or no side force once the bolts are
tightened. But I could be mistaken.
