It’s commonly used in the firearms industry to give corrosion resistance qualities, and wear resistance, mostly on semi auto hand guns.

That’s the extent of my knowledge of the process.

Subject: [Fot] Nitempering

Has anyone here had experience with Nitempering (or Ni-tempering) a.k.a. nitrocarburizing?  It’s closer to Tufftriding than nitriding, apparently and it gives the steel a certain amount of self-lubricating capability.
