[Fot] Floor jack

I purchased a Sears aluminum floor jack about 5 years ago.  It started
leaking after a few months, took it back and got no satisfaction.  I also
talked to a local shop that repairs and sells hydraulics.  He said none of
the new jacks use the older, more expensive cup type seals and they all use
O-rings to seal.  You can replace the O-rings but if the bores are made
cheaply they won't last either.  After the Sears experience I bought a
$59.99 Harbor Freight Aluminum Racing Jack.  It has served us well with no
problems.

 

I agree with Scott Barr, get the Harbor Freight jack and ALWAYS use jack
stands no matter where or what jack you use.  All the jacks now are made
"cheaply" and are meant to be replaced, not repaired.  I also have a heavy
shop jack that I bought 40 years ago made by Hein Werner that I have had
repaired twice when the good cup seals got worn.  It's still going strong!

My Harbor Freight 3,000 lb jack just gave up after about ten years.  Before
I buy another one, any other recommendations, or ones to stay away from?
I'm looking for light weight and a fair price - will pay something extra for
quality if there's a good argument for it.
