[Fot] Floor jack

I'm with you, Scott. I interpret your original question as "which jacks are good enough for the money", rather than "which jacks are best and will be a family heirloom?"

I, too, have a couple of really nice Craftsman floor jacks which are all I use around the shop. The bigger one weighs 95 pounds and is just too unwieldy to horse around for a race weekend (and the smaller one is too small to be my only jack at the track). I recently bought a Harbor Freight (Horrible Fright?) jack which might not be as reliable, but is more useful. And I have (and use) jack stands just in case it decides to become unreliable while I am underneath the car. If it lasts 10 years before it goes south, I'll be satisfied with that.

I still have my Sears floor jack I bought 35 years ago. However, it's way too heavy to take on racing weekends and I don't even use it much in the garage - just takes too much effort to move around compared to the light weight one. I'd consider paying more for a good light weight one, if it really is superior in quality. Certainly not an item I want to have fail while in use!

Bought a Sears 1/2 ton floor jack over 30 years ago and still use it. Not light weight
but I don't carry it I roll it. Never been repaired and lets down as slow as you want to
and will stay up for days at the time. I have never bought cheap tools and have lots
of old ones. My son will get to use them.

You guys have fun in CA.

My Harbor Freight 3,000 lb jack just gave up after about ten years. Before I buy another one, any other recommendations, or ones to stay away from? I'm looking for light weight and a fair price - will pay something extra for quality if there's a good argument for it.
