Dennis,

I'm sure your going to get a bunch of different answers on this but I've
always had good luck with a real thin

layer of silicone on both sides. I use it for the thermal expansion &
contraction and the flexibility of silicone

vs. a hard shellac. I know many have had success with hylomar as well.

The other benefit is the gaskets are easier to remove & reuse. I use Mordy's
base gaskets.

With regard to sealing the liner at the figure 8 gasket - is Indian Head
gasket shellac compound still a viable option?
