I heard an interesting argument years ago to the effect that you do NOT want patches sewn on using Nomex thread. Because the patch itself is NOT flame resistant, the theory goes, why would you want it firmly attached to you while it burns? Better to use regular cotton thread which will burn away and allow the burning patch to drop off.

Anyway, that's the theory.

Best not to be on fire at all, of course.

A shout out to a great resource for racers.

I was looking for a shop to sew on some patches and have my name put on my new drivers suit with embroidery. A racer friend suggest Corki's Embroidery in Newport Beach, CA (they have a website). All work was done in about two weeks with Nomex thread (very important) and the price was great. My understanding is that this is the go-to shop for racers in Southern California. Very nice people and excellent workmanship. If you need this service and can't find a local shop keep these folks in mind.

Cheers, Ken
