> March 31, 1968 - In the season-opening round of the United States Road Racing Championship in Mexico City, Mexican driver Moises Solano drives his McLaren M6B-Chevy to a 13-second victory after early leader Skip Scott encounters transmission trouble in his Lola T70-Chevrolet. Scott hangs on for 2nd, with 3rd place taken by polesitter Peter Revson, who records the race's fastest lap while battling back from an unscheduled pit stop in his Lola T70-Ford.

> April 1, 1967 - Rebounding from the disappointment of its Daytona 24 Hours season opener, Ford sweeps the top two podium places in the 12 Hours of Sebring with Mario Andretti and Bruce McLaren wheeling their new Ford MkIV to a 12-lap victory over teammates A.J. Foyt and Lloyd Ruby in one of the previous year's MkIIs. Andretti and McLaren become the first winners to average 100mph for the 12 hours. Third place goes to Gerhard Mitter and Scooter Patrick in a Porsche 910.

> April 1, 1978 - Howdy Holmes wins the season-opening Formula Atlantic race at Long Beach, Atlantic's first appearance in support of the Long Beach Grand Prix. Holmes takes Doug Shierson's March 78B to a 14-second win over 2nd-placed Tom Gloy in Rick Shea's March 76B, with Kevin Cogan 3rd in his own Ralt RT1. Bobby Rahal qualified Pierre Phillips' Ralt RT1 quickest, but pace lap contact cuts a tire and forces him to pit. He then slices his way through the 30-car field and is running 3rd when a halfshaft fails after 22 laps.
