Locally it must be all in the taxes.  I'm across the river in Pennsylvania, and the best gas price I can find is $2.24 - 50 cents higher than across the river in NJ.  Unfortunately, there is usually a $5 bridge toll involved in one direction.  With a 35 gallon tank, it would still be worth it.
