[Fot] TR4 TR6 quick rack

Surely Moss would be willing – eager, even – to exchange his older quick rack (presumably of the defective type) for one of their new ones which they say are of an improved design and construction? Any manufacturer or distributor in their right mind should be scrambling to get these things off the street/track before someone gets killed.

It would be interesting to compare one of the failed racks with one of Moss’ new ones to see what improvements were made and whether they look like they would work.

Curious,

What has been the fix to these racks to make them reliable, if any?? I have a TVR buddy that has an Argentine Quik Rack an would be interested in learning about any successful fix(s), outside of tossing this brand new rack he acquired a few years ago.

All the racks sold by MOSS are made in Argentina - the only rack produced in the UK for the TR is made for TR Enterprises and has a solid billet casing, so instantly recognisable.

Putting the Argentinian rack in a bag with a sticker that says 'product of the U.K.' Is surely just a dodge to mask the source and to hoodwink people into thinking that it's a different product. That's simply scandalous.

There were a large number of failures of these racks in the UK on both road and competition cars. For MOSS to say that there was only one is simply untrue.

I personally had TWO failures of brand new racks about 18 months apart. Both of these failures involved the pinion housing separating from the rack tube at high speed in very dangerous circumstances.

I would NOT recommend the use of a MOSS rack to anyone, whether for road or competition use because the manufacturing quality is poor and the material quality is similarly inadequate. The information that I was given at a meeting face to face with MOSS in london have me the impression that some testing had been done, but the solution to the problem really had not been found (ie do the job properly).

I now use a custom made rack which has a single piece pinion housing and rack tube made from billet aluminium. These are being made in the UK. I will never use a steering rack supplied by MOSS again.

Tony
