INDY last year was probably the highlight of my vintage experience.Between having two in depth conversations with a former winner and buying and having lunch with a quite famous lady driver it was a blast. Money (lots!) well spent.Lots of very interesting cars of all types and the museum was worth the visit. The oval session was beyond description. The road course was fun.The spectators were in heaven; they couldn't believe they were invited into the garages to look at the cars and actually sit in them. One lad of about eight said he had been to five 500's!The concert was good and the fireworks went on forever. Tony Perela said he wanted the biggest fireworks show in the state: I think he got his wish. This year's concert is B S & T by what I heard. Any of our older gang heard of them? And on the way home, the Air Force Museum is not to be missed if you're headed east.Great time.OBTW: if you follow NASCAR, Danica(n't) just tied another woman's record of 5 top 10 finishes. Took her about 120 races to do it with enormous money behind her.The other woman? Janet Guthrie, who did it in 33 races, without nearly the resources or quality of equipment. Also Ms Guthrie oozes charm, wit, character, class, and personality. I'm not doing INDY this year, but will be there, maybe helping an old friend with his cars. See you there.Bill

Did anybody recommend the SVRA Indy event? Great spectating including big screen TV all around the track. First one was last year and drew over 700 cars and at least 10K spectators. I know I loved both the track and the spectating.

When I made my recommendation of a good track to see cars and races it was Sear's Point, North of S.F. BUT, if you want to see a great variety of cars and really nice cars it is Road America and I guess Watkins Glen gets the same approval. Famous tracks.

With all these other tracks, besides Watkins Glen my "bucket list" is getting bigger !

A bit out of the way, but Le Mans Classic. Every other year event, 2016 is next, and draws cars and spectators from around the world  (and, like Road America, the food is great). Ted

One I have not seem otherwise mentioned is the Pittsburg Vintage Grand Prix (Shinnlley sp Park). It has a very inclusive car show as well.

Well, the Kastner Cup has given me great reason and opportunity to visit some very special tracks and towns with significant historical appeal.  I'd have to agree that Road America and Watkins Glen with the enthusiastic community surrounding the racing events are especially wonderful. Elkhart Lake's Osthoff hotel is the place to stay.

Amici...

The responses to 'Best spectator vintage event' all tickle me.  They remind me of that old joke that ends, "Well,...even bad sex is pretty good."  Point being, pick one, you damn near can't go wrong.

But of course some are better than others.  We had run most of the major tracks in the country east of Hallet, and in fact many of the minor tracks as well.  I think my top five suggestions would include the 'major annual' vintage events at Road America, Road Atlanta, Lime Rock, Mid-Ohio, and Watkins Glen.  If I had to pick just one Top Choice (and having been given the guideline of bring 'an auto enthusiast vice an experienced racer'), I think I'd pick the Lime Rock Labor Day weekend because their No Sunday Racing policy allows for a second 'happening'.  On Sunday they have a HUGE Concours that attracts tons and tons of exotic collector cars.  I think that would sit well given the guidelines.  Add to that...it is a back to back racing weekend with the big Watkins Glen event, providing an opportunity to get to both of them (and there is plenty to do in the area during the days between them.
