[Fot] Differential gear oil?

The content of E(xtreme)P(ressure) additives is designated by the GL
specification and GL4 is stong enough for gearboxes, but normally not for
hypoid rear axle gears. GL5 is necessary , especially in racing. Synthetic
gear oil is much better in resisting to the shear forces (sliding action) of
hypoid gears.
High viscosity is only necessary for the oil to stick onto the gears. At
least this is what I've heard and it seems to make sense.

I use the Costal GL4 from NAPA and change it every 2 race weekends in the
TR3. This is a welded diff so not as much heat as an open diff or one of
those fancy limited slips. Works great and about $30/gal.
I tried using this in the WRL endurance TR6 last month. In hour 6, we boiled
the fluid right out of the diff and melted the poly mounts. This was a stock
open diff. Most of the endurance racers I spoke to said that they use full
synthetic in their endurance diffs due to the prolonged heat.
I will continue using Costal in the 3, but will only use full synthetic from
now on for endurance events. We lost about 3 of seat time due to that
failure. Well worth the extra cost of synthetic. Not to mention all those
bearings and damn side seals that have to be replaced now. What a pain.

So Redline shock proof "light" gear oil is what I'm leaning to use in the
refurbished diff I'm putting in the race car.
What do others use?
