Oil starvation. I have been told that this is the way TR3/4 engines can go too.
The bearing spins after oil loss.
An expert/experienced builder I know (Greg S.) makes crank mods to get extra oil from the center main journal to feed more oil to 2 and 3 on the TR motors.
You won't see the pressure drop on a gauge.
I'm not sure what Spit racers are doing for this, but I bet someone will pipe in on this.
It might help to start your own thread on this, directed to Spit racers.
