[Fot] What makes a Triumph a Triumph

Bob nailed it.  TR along with BMC had enough capacity to build XYZ 
car/truck/tractor. They also had capacity to sometimes over produce.  
So, these parts sat in "bin boxes" on the shelves.  Small 
manufacturer's, say Lotus would come to Standard Triumph and say "we 
have 200 quid to spend. What do you have that might work for this 
suspension project.  TR would look int he bin box and say "we have these 
uprights that should work for what you need". So Lotus would buy XYZ 
uprights. Go back, figure out to install them and sell a few cars.  Then 
Colin would go back to TR and ask for more because he now had more 
money. But, says TR, we ran out of those.  However we do have some of 
these that might work.  And the whole circle would start again. . Ted
