Thanks for all the responses. I was concerned that with the Unilite electronic ignition it might be a different process from points and that I might somehow damage it. Apparently not, so I'll set it statically the way I always have.

Does the Mallory unit have some sort of LED indicator on the board that signals when it fires? On my 123Tune, I aligned the crank damper timing marks to my desired static timing on the compression stroke for #1 cyl (15 deg in my case), then with power to the ignition (and the dist. cap removed) slowly rotate the dist body opposite the rotation of the rotor until the LED indicates. Lock it down and you are set.
Otherwise, I'd set the crank damper timing marks to static timing value (on #1 compression stroke), then rotate the distributor body till the rotor points at the #1 plug wire. That should be plenty close enough to get it fired up- then fine tune with the timing light as normal.
